They just tape the shows in two takes per scene and use the best ones for the final product.

Well the first to seasons`s audience was "live and kicking". But because of all the noise they started making whenever a new character entered the room they removed the live audience.

You know what I'd like to know, is how the laugh track works on camera sight gags. On many episodes the laughs don't arrive until the person/place/thing makes its appearance on camera, even though him/her/it was on stage for the audience to see. I think an example would be the episode with the "himbo" (dan?) who George had a crush on. He's sitting on the couch with his face in bandages, but the audience doesn't start laughing until the camera pans across the room and catches him for the first time. They must fool around with the laugh track all the time, adding laughter when needed.

Actually, sometimes (and not very often) they will tape without an audience and then later bring in an audience to show the episode to and record the laugh track. In that case, using your example of the "mimbo", the audience's laugh track used may have been where they didn't acually see his wrapped face until the screen they were looking at showed it.

Also, sometimes they will tell the studio audience it is time to go and then after they leave, they will re-tape some of the scenes or tape a few new scenes that the writers came up with impromtu.

They are exceptional at what they do, for sure.
