Spin-off?

Everyone - and rightly so - is looking forward to the May 14 finale. But what happened to the talk of a spin-off? After it was announced this would be Seinfeld's last year, there were rumours of spin-offs with Kramer and George. But now, nothing. Did Jerry not give permission? Or will something be announced after the finale? Has anyone heard something?

Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David (seinfeld's co-creators) have said about a million times that there will be NO spinoffs.

I haven't heard anything, however, I would be very interested to see what kind of show Wayne Night and Michael Richards could put together.

Just heard Michael Richards is in negotiations to replace Quentin Tarrantino (when his contract expires) in the broadway play Wait Until Dark, also starring Marisa Tomei. He may be too busy to do a spinoff in the near future. Also, in a recent article Julia L-D says she wants to spend time with her family. alt showbiz gossip

For a role like Wait Until Dark I don't think Richards would fare any better than Tarantino.

Did you get this info from an agent or an insider? There has been nothing but denials of spinoffs from the 3 remaining cast members since Jerry's announcement, even though I am sure NBC would love to have one. In fact, Jason Alexander has a deal with Universal studios to develop and produce shows--and I read that he wants to do a Broadway play as well. alt showbiz gossip

Michael Richards said in a recent interview that he is surprised NBC hasn't asked him if he wants to do a spinoff. He says he is the only cast member that isn't tired of his character yet and would love to do a spinoff, but doesn't think it'll happen.

He said the above in that now infamous Vanity Fair article that is proving to be more puff (read, tongue in cheek) than fact. I can't imagine NBC not wanting a spinoff with any or all of the remaining cast member. alt showbiz gossip

Yeah, I also read that Jason Alexander wants to produce sitcoms. Julia Louis Dreyfuss apparently wants to take 5 years off (in other words, couldn't find another job) and Michael Richards wants to continue his movie career.

Also, Jerry Seinfeld is planning a world comedy tour.

If there was a spin-off to Seinfeld though, I would like to see Kramer and Newman have a show. Wouldn't be great to see a show that had cameos by Seinfeld or the rest of the cast.

I think he might find it hard to get a >good< lead part in movies. Maybe a great character role like Christopher Lloyd had in Back to the Future. I also think a lead part in a Broadway play--where he is far removed from Kramer-- will help him reestablish his credentials as a versatile actor. alt showbiz gossip
