I don't think that was a parody of anything just another of the Peterman catalogue revelations. Elaine had writer's block and could not think of a story for the Himalayan Walking Shoe. She was depressed, wet, and then her situation gave her the story she needed. It was similar to the situation when she was fired by Mr. Pitt, and when walking in the rain met J. Peterman who hired her.
