I think the basic thing that you have to remember here is that they did not really know how to react to Susan's death at first. Sure, it was portrayed as tasteless, but in a real-life situation like that, you don't really know how to react at first. You are usually too suprsised and speechless. As the show ended right then, much of the grief and shock probably didn't set in until later.

Ahhh. So George was in grief when he called Marisa and he was just looking for some consolation that he wouldn't get from Jerry or Elaine. That's a shame.
