Radio Times rates Seinfeld number 1

The BBC listings magazine in the UK, Radio Times, has rated Seinfeld number 1 ever comedy show in a book the Radio Times Guide to TV Comedy. It states " We've had great sitcoms in Britain too but arguably none match the wit, energy and invention achieved by Seinfeld. Consider this, it lasted 180 episodes, the equivalent of 30 British series...with scarcely a weak show in the bunch. Ostensibly a show about nothing, episodes simply depicted the everyday activities of these four selfish trivial single New Yorkers but the scripts revealed a rich tapestry of ideas, intricately woven, seperate yet irretrievably entangled and everything tied up inside 22 minutes." For info, Fawlty Towers was runner up. Phil Silvers came third, Frasier was 6, MASH was number 7, Larry Sanders 11 and Cheers 17. Other shows were British.

Its ironic then that the BBC themselves used to give Seinfeld such crappy scheduling: late night Tuesdays (a dead night in the UK) on BBC2 (not its main channel) swapping its air times regularly (and quite often its day), replacing it every other week with any old sports coverage: "Snooker", "Darts" or "Gnat Fishing" before finally ditching it without warning several months ago.

Thank god for the Paramount Comedy channel on Cable who are currently showing it every night at 9.30pm for its entire run.

I agree about the BBC treatment of Seinfeld. Apparently, it is back on the air later this month but I guess that it will still wander all over the schedules.
