No, the North American standard is known as NTSC, I believe.

You might find that our TV /VCR is PAL/NTSC capable. Most TV's/VCR's here in Australia play both formats...

I know USA is NTSC but saying that almost every video player you can buy in the UK plays both PAL and NTSC so not sure what the US video market is like

The PAL format is definitely playable on UK & Australian though (and i think Europe is PAL as well)

As for DVD players, the Daewoo DVD-5800 can handle both NTSC and PAL discs, and can be reset using the remote to operate region-free .

Don't know how works the otherway, but usually European DVD-players have an option to show NTSC as NTSC or show NTSC as PAL60, bacause not all TV's can show both.
