"Rochelle Rochelle" is described in the episodes as some sort of erotic Euro-Lesbian flick...does "Rachel Rachel" have lesbian themes? I thought it was a Joanne Woodward movie about a spinster schoolteacher in a small town.
You hear the following line at least twice in Seinfeld history, maybe even more, when referring to Rochelle Rochelle:
"A young girl's strange and erotic journey from Millan to Minsk."
And another classic from Susan (before engagement and she was a lesbian):
Susan: "Rochelle Rochelle... there's a lot of nudity in that... " George: "Just a little... and it's not even frontal nutity... it's sideal nutity..."
That's not the exact quote, please forgive me. I hate it when people don't quote a line right and now I'm doing it. Sorry! :)
I think they're only parodies of movies in general. Since so many films can be subclassed by genre, it's not that hard to draw parallels between movie titles. However, I think that the writers probably come up with potential movie names as kind of a sideline amusement to joke- writing. When the "Cold Fusion" news story broke a couple of years back, someone must have said "What a great movie title!" It's got such built-in drama. I've never even seen a Columbus movie. None of them have gotten particularly stellar reviews. I can't even think of any great "Age of Exploration" genre films that were any good, with the possible exception of "Mutiny on the Bounty". So I doubt that "Ponce de Leon" was based on any specific film. As far as Rochelle Rochelle goes, I got a sense from listening to the trailer (which they played in front of "Checkmate" in the episode "The Movie") that it was a takeoff on cheesy Euro-core films like "Emmanuel" rather than the old Paul Newman/ Joann Woodward film "Rachel, Rachel", which was a movie about the late blossoming of a spinster schoolteacher. I can definitely see parallels between "Cold Fusion" and "Chain Reaction", but anybody who watches movies and follows current events could have arrived at the same conclusion, or come up with those titles.
