J Peterman on CNN

The "real" J Peterman was profiled on CNN today (12/6/97). In real life he is not unlike the Seinfeld version, but a little more laid back.

I didn't see the whole thing, but I have to assume they did. The CNN show (I think it's called "Pinnacle") usually profiles Captains of Industry. No slam against J Peterman, but I don't think he would quite qualify without the Seinfeld hook.

It's his real name. I think they said the "J" stands for John, but I could be wrong.

I, too, was surprised when I found out J Peterman was a real company. I visited their website and ordered a catalog (they call it Owner's Manual). I just received it on Friday. It took several weeks for it to come.

The descriptions of the clothes are, of course, a lot funnier when they do them on the show but the catalog is funny, too. The J Peterman Company website is

I have noticed the show mentioning more and more companies--J Crew, Pottery Barn. Have there been any others?
