George not Jewish, Jews dont say.....

Perhaps one of the writers follows this group because there have now been to hints that George is not Jewish.

1. He was delivering Christmas presents to his Parents (not for, he just happened to run into the neighbors while he was at their house)

2. In the Rye - George says " Oh mother of God", obviously this is not a phrase that a Jewish person would use.

An aside, when I saw what the episode would be about in the paper, I could just imagine George's Folks with Susan's Folks - suprised no one thought of mentioning that angle here before eg: the inlaws. Naturally the Castanzas, as always, had me roaring, they have to be the best recurring characters on the show.

Shouldn't the name alone disqualify the Costanzas as Jewish??? Can't anyone tell Italian from Yiddish???

FYI, there ARE Italian Jews with Italian sounding names, e.g., Luzzato, (a famous Italian rabbinical and literary family) , Luigi Ottolenghi, (a Jewish prime minister of Italy) Giorgio Bassini,(the author) Modigliani(the painter). However, the ethnic mannerisms and speech inflections that Costanzas exhibit are pretty much the hallmarks of New York Jews of Eastern European descent, and not the aristocratic Italian Jews who are fast disappearing as an identifiable ethnic group. ...Could it be because Jason Alexander, Jerry Stiller and Estelle Harris, the actors who portray the Costanza clan are all Jews of Ashkenazic background who hail from the New York area?

Nope. Italian and Jewish aren't mutually exclusive. While most people of Italian descent are Roman Catholic, not all are and some are Jewish.
