Kosmo or Cosmo??

Was Kramer's first name Kosmo or Cosmo?

Please note I do not have one iota of proof of this, scientific or otherwise. However I can state that if there were proof that would cause the possibility of the name being Kosmo to be practically zero. Therefore any 'proof' that his name was one than it could be taken proof that it is not his name meaning that the other spelling were correct, proving thatthe other spelling is correct and thus the cycle begins anew. I'm gettingdizzy so I will halt this silliness

Mike, please brush up on netiquette. It is considered impolite to criticize spelling and/or grammar. The whole point of Usenet is to encourage informal exchange of opinions and ideas. INFORMAL.

Believe me, I could critique every post for grammar and spelling. I'm a former journalist with lots of editing experience. So could many other people in this newsgroup. But we don't. Why? Because we are more interested in *ideas*. This group would be inundated with correction posts if everyone did what you do. Is that what you want?

I think that people who constantly criticize grammar/spelling feel that they are somehow more educated or enlightened than the rest of us. Guess what? You're not. You're just focused on something that the rest of us consider trivial given the medium of Usenet.

Sorry to rant but I am getting really tired of reading all of these stupid spelling/grammar corrections.

However the number of incomprehensible posts on the net is increasing dramatically. When the net was the domain of the military, universities, and large institutions your statements are correct. The informal interchange of information was more important than the somewhat meaningless comments regarding style. The content was useful, important, and valuable. Hence any encouragement to promote that exchange was supported. The types of posts appearing today are so poor many can't even be understood. Look at the original Kosmo/Cosmo post and tell me what the past tense is supposed to imply? So a post that asks about spelling then misspells 'spelled' is at least humorous.

The old netiquette served a pupose but may no longer apply. The world has changed. The net has changed. The *dumbing-down* of America (Canada included) is a serious condition that affects everyone. It should be everyone's responsibility to stem that tide. There is nothing wrong with striving for an education. There is nothing wrong with trying to write correctly. There cannot be an intelligent exchange of information if the form of the communication is inept (Marshall McLuhan?). So if we correct a writer using humor, politely, didactically and don't attack the writer personally perhaps it will help.
