The Value of Money: Ever notice how meaningless it is on Sienfeld?

	Except for George (who apparently, according to a statement by
Jerry, has  the uncanny ability to calclulate 5% of a meal check), it
seems like money doesn't mean much to anyyone on Seinfeld.  Jerry's
the worst, he drops $20's and $100's all the time and finally went
over the top with a scarcely thought out $4000.00 kitchen
conversion/reconversion last Thursday.   Some guy who dated her ONCE
buys Elaine an orthopedic matress (v'you seen the price of those
suckers?)  in the same episode.
	This crudliness goes on all the time.  Why?

READ: IS SOMETHING GOING ON BETWEEN THE LINES. THINK! THINK! THINK! (I hope at least some of you get it).

Seinfeld is not JUST a sitcom.

Interesting question. I seem to recall that there was a ruckus over money a while ago. The 3 non-eponymous members of the cast wanted to make the same amount of $$ as Jerry, and the producers resisted that. The show almost got cancelled over that.

Mostly, I think the attitude towards money is just designed to show that these are young(ish) people with no kids and no outside responsibilities who don't live lavishly but who are lucky (and/or, in Jerry's and Elaine's cases, talented) enough to have careers where they can make enough money to get by without working long hours. It's a little unrealistic, but most sitcoms are even more unrealistic...

Don't forget about the $25000 Cadillac Jerry bought twice for his father..
