Although I generally enjoyed last night's episode, I was really turned off by the laugh track. Didn't it bother anyone else? I didn't realize that one of the charms of "Seinfeld" was the live audience, until last night. I felt like someone else's sense of humour was being imposed on me by it.

I think one of the big deals with a laugh track is that it doesn't seem too out of place when you know they're in a studio. Well done, and you can't tell the difference between a canned laughter and a studio audience. The times it really grated on my nerves was in the outdoor scenes. There's no way an audience is watching the outdoor scenes, so when the laugh track comes in, it's really noticable. They just don't work when it's not a studio.

Didn't "Seinfeld" always have a laugh track? Even during the stand-up scenes; those jokes never got as much laughter on his HBO special years ago!
Then again, doesn't just about every sitcom have a laugh track? There was an interesting article somewhere in which some studio guy explained how even "live studio audience" shows have the laughter added.
Maybe "Roc" doesn't have one now, but I'll bet they have "Laughter" signs up on the wall!
The studio audience was one of the "features" of Seinfeld. I'm not sure what bothers me so much about the laugh track, but I really was disappointed hearing it. Maybe I enjoy the natural sound of laughter. The canned stuff sounded so out of place.
