Hello all of you out there,
I was less than thrilled with this weeks Seinfeld. It wasn't as bad as what I consider the worst episode (The Friar's Club) but it was definitely somewhere in the bottom ten. I did like the premiere but I'm beginning to see some problems that I can't ignore for the whole season.
The best word I can come up with to describe this problem is "phoney". Maybe contrived would work better though. It feels like "they" are trying too hard and the resultant show comes off as over-the-top. I'll make a list of what I did and didn't like.
Didn't like:
- chases scenes aren't funny, they're filler
- Kramer (rather, Michael Richards) over-acted his instant falling in love with Pam
- Newman sitting pensively in his chair was too much like his judge role from last seasons bicycle episode. Newman's exaggerated dialogue is being played up too much as well. Compare last nights Newman with the one in last nights syndicated The Boyfriend episode. Two totally different characters.
- Elaine's hair! Although, I liked her acknowledgement of last seasons straight hair mess. Long hair rules! :)
- The Foundation: get rid of this storyline. Get George out of a suit and into some velvet.
- recurring characters/themes from OLD episodes (in this one it was the BAY-BEE) -- they are hitting us over the head with them instead of being more subtle about it like in the past
- the film or lens or whatever it is is too bright and crisp, go back to the somewhat dark softer focus
Did like:
- Newman feeding lines to Kramer ala Cyrano de Bergerac BUT then again I thought Kramer had the Kevorka (sp?) -- why does he need help?
- The Foundation board all assuming Geoge killed Susan and thinking nothing more of it.
Now I'm drawing a blank...ok, please don't get me wrong and lump me in with the Seinfeld naysayers. I LOVE this show and will never ever stop watching it. I still like the premiere but I think the most important thing is to end the Foundation/Susan storyline altogether. It's a dead end street and George is a much more interesting character without it.
