Are we all thirtysomethings?

Fans discuss whether Seinfeld's appeal is limited to thirtysomething singles or if the show has broader demographic reach across ages.

I have been wondering if the success of 'Seinfeld' is due to the show appealing to a particular audience, that is, to thirtysomething singles like the group portrayed on screen.

I am 32, slim, neat, single and I get on very well with women. I am NOT gay (not that there is anything wrong with that). I seem to have the same kind of crazy relationships with women suffered by Jerry and George. Indeed, I cannot envisage a future situation in which I will ever have sex again.

Oh my God, I am becoming George Costanza. HEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPP!

I myself am 33...but I notice that it is one of the few shows that make my 14 year old daughter laugh out loud when watching.

How right you are! I'm in my forties and my dad is 73 and we both enjoy the show (though at times I'd feel a bit stiffled to laugh at some of the dirty humor on the show in front of him!) Lois

My Dad (age 76) LOVED the show. We'd laugh about it a lot when we talked. He thought "The Contest" was hilarious. It's great to have memories of my Dad laughing about Seinfeld. My Dad died in April. Marcie (a thirty-something fan) P.S. My kids watch it too...4 1/2 and 9...they enjoy it a lot...youngest one talks about it a lot "remember when they were fighting about getting the car parked..." Of course some things they don't understand, but I just explain it when I can.

Well, hey, we can't all be thirtysomething. I'm mid-fortysomething and so is my hubby. We both LOVE "The Sein" as do many of our 40-something friends.

Me too. I'm 21 and have seen EVERY episode on its original
airdate. I guess that means I've been watching since I was
13-14. I fell in love with the show from the beginning. Anyone
else remember when the show was on Tuesday nights? I guess I
was such a fan because I wanted to live like Sein and co when I
grew up. Unfortunately, I turned out more like George than
Jerry! Still a better life than someone on Rosanne or any
family show.

I'm 17 and I've been watching the show for a long while. Best comedy on t.v.!

P.S. I'm glad they killed off Susan...she was so annoying!

I can relate. The attraction of the show is in the absurdity of the characters. Their neuroses are sooo real, yet so magnified. Thus, the humor. But I have to admit Elaine is getting a little bitter for me. But I see the dilemma. How long can the show go on without some change? Marriage or other metamorphosis of character, and that's probably why the Susan bit was written in. They took it as far as it could go without losing George completely. Remember the "worlds collide" episode? Elaine wanted to go to a museum or something with Susan and Kramer predicted that if Elaine and Susan became friends, George's two worlds (relationship and friends) would collide and, I don't know, destroy his life! Which was true. Susan had to stay peripheral to the whole Jerry's apartment scene. Anyway...... Oh my God, I have no life!

I often have to warn my friends when "worlds are colliding!"

Well Elizabeth,

Think about this: as is the case for all these kinds of sitcoms, Seinfeld will eventually end. The psycological humourisms and pseudo-lifestyle themes devised by the shows designers will have to evole beyond the Seinfeld style.

What kind of "Seinfeld" will exist in ten years time, and more importantly, what kind of attitudes will be represented?

Elizabeth is confused by your post. Elizabeth is gettin' upset. Elizabeth says, 'no soup for you!'

I see references to this line a lot. But I can't remember the circumstances. Can someone refresh my memory? Thanks. Elaine: "I don't know how you guys walk around with those things"

It's the show where there's a Woody Allen movie being filmed on Jerry's street. Kramer stumbles onto the movie set (you never actually see this, but you hear it second-hand from Kramer), and Allen offers him a bit part, in which his character is supposed to say "These pretzels are making me thirsty." Of course, all the characters have their own advice on how to interpret the line, which is therefore repeated several times during the course of the program.

Mitchell Virchick "All opinions expressed herein represent [email] the views of the individual and are not Nortel-35 Davis necessarily those of Nortel, Northern Telecom, RTP, NC 27709 or its affiliates."

As far as I remember, it's in the episode about boxer shorts and/or jockeys.. Can someone confirm that?

Mats Lindh - Norwegian Seinfeld fan..

The line is from "The Alternate Side" when Kramer gets this line in a Woody Allen movie, and George's incompetent parking causes major setbacks for the film.

         ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I've actually used this line several times. Mostly because I totally
agree, but also because it's just plain funny.

Erin

I don't remember the boxer shorts being in that episode, but I know that the pretzels line is from the episode where Kramer gets a small role in a Woody Allen movie, and that is his line. He keeps repeating it to figure out how to best say it, stressing different words.

Mine? "You realize of course...you're naked." You would be surprised how often you can use this line... And though I haven't gotten my chance yet, I'm just waiting for MCI to call...

I love to memerize Sienfeld lines and more importantly Sienfeld SITUATIONS. I'm sure allot of us encounter ironic and strange situations in life, but I see that most don't take advantage of these situations in life and make them enjoyable and funny as does the show Sienfeld. Think about if your at an airport baggage check-in, renting a car, sitting near someone on a plane, sitting next to someone at a movie or a sports event- in all of these situations one will most surely encounter unreasonable people. To me, it's allot of fun to add alittle "Sienfeld" flair to these situations and have fun with them.

Justin Tribble

I do the same thing, in fact once a Seinfeld situation that I
remembered came in handy. It was the car rental scene in "The Alternate
Side". Jerry is tring to rent a car but his reservation is no good
because they ran out of cars.
Last summer I was in the process of moving from Texas to Washington
and along they way stayed in Minneapolis for a night. My mom and I had a
reservation for a hotel room with two double beds in it. When we arived
we learned that the hotel didn't have any double rooms left so they were
going to give us a single, so one of us would have to sleep on a cot.
This is when I went off. I recited Jerry's speech about reservations
almost exactly, except when he said car I said room. It worked and I was
amazed that it did. The lady at the front desk was most likely not a
Seinfeld fan because she didn't recognize what I was saying.
I am always on the lookout for another chance to use Seinfeldisms to
my advantage (or for fun).

He pointed out that the point of a reservation was to hold a car. He said that the clerk did not know how to take a reservation. She claimed she did, to which he replied 'I don't think you do!' Anyone can take a reservation, but you can't hold a reservation, which is really the most important part. This was all accompanied by hand gestures indicating the motions of 'taking' reservations right out of the air.

Seinfeld... George Clooney... OJ Simpson... Princess Di... David Duchovny.... Courteney Cox... Heather Locklear....Gina Lee Nolin.... Jennie Garth... Kathie Lee Gifford.. Xena...

KATHIE LEE GIFFORD's sweatshop crisis has made her "lovemaking hotter and more frequent."(Enquirer). Thoughts: 1) I think you have to be pretty sick to get off on something like sweatshops. I can't even imagine how... well, actually, I can:

Kathie Lee: Frank, oooh.... oohhh...

Frank: Just think of the sweaty workers, perspiration dripping off of their hard, well formed peasant bodies...

Kathie Lee: Oooh oooh.....

Frank: Think of the overseer in the sweatshop, his grip tightening on his hard, black leather whip....

Kathie Lee: Frank, I love it when you talk dirty....

Frank: Suddenly, the overseer grabs a supple peasant woman, leers at her while he licks his lips, and says, "You! You are two dresses under quota! Report to the punishment room, and remove all your outer garments!"

Kathie Lee: Oooh Frank, Ooooooh.....!

COURTENEY COX has dumped Michael Keaton, maybe because SHE IS FOOLING AROUND WITH TWO GUYS ON THE SET OF HER NEW MOVIE!!!(Enquirer) Thoughts: 1) The article said that Courteney told Michael that she wanted to be "free" to date other people. But if her movie does badly and dating opportunities decline, do you think she will want to be Michael's captive again?

2) Michael Keaton is starring in a new movie where he plays a wimpy guy who clones himself. If Courteney could clone herself, do you think she would do so just to go out with as many guys as she could simultaneously?

Beverly Hills 90210's Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, who used to go out with Brian Austin Green, was seen SMOOCHING with Jennie Garth.(Star) Thoughts: 1) For those of you who don't watch the show, Brian plays a wimpy sensitive guy who shaves most of his head and wears large hoop earrings. Do you think Brian turned Tiffani off to men?

2) If Tiffani gets hot for women, will Tori Spelling be safe? Or Brandon's mom?

3) Do you think Shannen Dougherty left the show because Jennie Garth was coming on to her?

GEORGE CLOONEY paid for NUDE LAP DANCERS at a strip club.(Star) Thoughts: 1) I'm confused. A famous star has to pay for nude women?

2) Do you think it would help if Clooney walked around Rodeo Drive in Hollywood wearing a sandwich board which read, "I'm George Clooney. I'm playing Batman in the next Batman movie. Please, someone, go out with me!"

3) Do you think the lap dancers wore high heels? If so, do you think it could, ahem, hurt when they danced in George's lap?

YOUNG WOMEN camp out on OJ SIMPSON's lawn until they get invited inside.(Enquirer ) Thoughts: 1) I express no astonishment that young women everywhere want to flock to OJ's house to make out with the superstar. Instead, I wonder about the mechanics: Do they just go up to his house, ring the doorbell, and say, "We're available?"

2) Do you suppose that OJ's house is like a foreign embassy, with a long line of women snaking around the block, all waiting for entry visas?

3) Do you suppose that OJ has a hunchback deaf-mute butler answer the door while OJ views the visitor from the window, giving a thumbs up or thumbs down?

HEATHER LOCKLEAR is said to be ready to get plastic surgery on her eyes if just one person tells her to.(Star) Thoughts: 1) Do you think plastic surgeons could make a lot of money off of Heather by making suggestive comments to her? What sort of suggestive comments would they be?

"Oh Heather, your nose is getting a little out of shape."

"You could use some chin work."

"Your ears are a little too perfectly rounded, have you ever considered the Vulcan look?"

"Did you really intend to only go 25% of the way when you got your chest enlarged?"

"Do you realize how much thinner you'd look without your liver?"

LUCY LAWLESS, who plays amazon warrior "Xena", used to play another part; an erotic role with another woman in "Peach", a 16 minute movie from a series called "Girlfriends: Lesbian Short Films From Around the World."(Globe) Thoughts: 1) If Hercules, Xena's boyfriend, found out about this, do you think Hercules would dump Xena on the spot, or agree to double date?

SEINFELD claims he comes up with his "best material" in the middle of the night so he bought his buxom girlfriend SHOSHONNA a life-sized Jerry doll so she won't get lonely when he gets up at night.(Globe)

Thoughts: 1) If Shoshonna isn't getting his "best material", then who is?

2) When the dummy is substituted for Seinfeld, does Shoshonna notice the difference? Or any reduction in performance?

3) If Seinfeld is worried that his YOUNG YOUNG girlfriend thinks him old and lethargic, how do you think he feels when he returns to the bedroom and finds SHOSHONNA and the dummy looking relaxed and each smoking cigarettes?

Baywatch's GINA LEE NOLIN has appeared in a photo where she's stark naked, her hands bound by tape, and a clothespin clamped on one of her... well, you know.(Globe) Thoughts: 1) A clothespin? Was she posing and doing laundry at the same time?

2) If Gina was doing laundry, do you think she walks naked around the house with wet clothes hanging from her?

3) If Madonna was reading this article about Gina and she saw the bondage photo do you think she would just sniff and turn the page? Or do you think she would try to set up a date

DAVID DUCHOVNY, before he got his part in the X-Files, appeared in an X-rated movie where he showed FULL FRONTAL NUDITY.(Globe) Thoughts: 1) I'm curious. When David applied for the X-files job, what did his resume say?

1989 Actor, the Movie "New Year's Day" I had the starring role. It was a film about an undercover spy who had to investigate a brothal for irregularities. I had 17 female co-stars. Running time: 44 minutes.

2) When the X-files people asked David about the film, with questions like, "I never heard of this film," what do you think David told them?

"Well, it was a foreign film, it was never released in the states." or "We had problems getting a PG-13 rating, it was some technicality, I think."

4) When the X-files people asked David, "So, what sort of acting experience do you have," did he say,

"I have a lot of experience with leading ladies" or "I'm not afraid to express myself" or "I've received extensive training in the use of body language."

PRINCESS DI DEMANDS sex five times a night from married men.(Star) Thoughts: 1) Every hour on the hour? When she's in bed with a married man, do you think he breaks out in a sweat everytime he hears the chimes of Big Ben?

2) And what's with the married men? Di: "So... are you married?"

Chap #24: "Why, yes."

Di: "Ooooohhhh.... Meet me in the palace at midnight. The password to give to the palace seargant of the guard is 'Royal Oats.'"

3) The article said that one of Di's men said that Di kept "pleading" for him to sex her. Di: "Please, let's do it again, please please please!"

Chap #92: "We just did the fourth time, I'm too tired, I don't know...."

Di: "SEX! I MUST HAVE MORE AND MORE BLOOODY SEX!" [Di rolls around until he is on top, then starts to benchpress him up and down.]

4) The article said they did it in the palace. Do you suppose they did it on the throne?

Queen, walking by the throne room: "Cadberry, whatever is this do-not-disturb sign doing on the door?"

Even though I s'ppose the above question has recieved ample responces, being bored and having absoloutly nothing to do, I couldnt resist the urge to contribute. :)

Anyyyways, I am 21 and I love the show and so do all my friends... who are roughly in the same age group. I think the reason it appeals to all ages is beacuse the themes of the show dont really fall into a certain age category, even though most of the ppl in the show are in their mid-thirties. :)
