Jerry said he wanted to leave before the show lost it. I think he was one season too late. Maybe two seasons.If they had ended the show after 95-96 people would have said,"Well done.Especially with Larry David gone." If they had ended the show after 96-97 people would have bitched but not as much. They would have said that the show was still decent but losing it. They ended when they did and people are bitching. It was great to see Seinfeld get all the attention and publicity which was well deserved but the show couldn't live up to the hype especially with the finale being not that good.But could anything live up to that kind of hype? It hurt to enjoy the attention the show was getting and then someone saying the show bit this year.People always say that there is nothing but junk on tv and it hurt to not be able to say,"Wrong! Seinfeld is still great!" But you can't because the show was downhill this year.

mostly agreed. but I think a great episode of Seinfeld may have been able to live up to the hype, but a mediocre to bad episode like the finale just crumbles into a disaster under that kind of pressure... and sadly, seeing as the Finale was the highest rated episode ever, people who never watched the show before were watchin it, it went down with a bad rap. the last season was also pretty bad, with a few good episodes mixed in the bunch. I think Jerry left while they were still having alot of fun making the show, but not at it's best or even a moderately high point (unless you go by the ratings...) Even Seinfeld himself said after he returned to NY he realized how off-focus the show had gotten and how secluded he had been from ordinary life. I believe he said something almost exactly like "Each season it seemed to get farther and farther off...If we had come back to NY to write the show...it probably could have been better."

Most creative people THINK they no longer have it. Once when I was in NYC and had had an important dream I could not figure out, some friends referred me to a "brilliant dream lade", another psychologist whom they thought was the best interpreter of dreams in the area. When I went to see her, she told me "I was once very good indeed. But no more. I"ll work with you if you wish, but I'm not as good as I was". I went back and told my friends what she had said and they cracked up. Apparently she ALWAYS thinks that. 5 years ago she was saying the same thing. (she was every bit as brilliant as they had said she was, as I found out for myself).

THis is really true of creative people. There's a drive to get on to the next thing too. So I never believe people who criticize their own work.

There are people who put down Bird's records with orchestras. They may not be his best, but they are incredibly beautiful when compared with most other stuff.

The show changed, but it was still great, in my opinion. Cynth (formerly raingluttn - you could probably figure that out from my lousy manual quote system)
