Does anybody else find Wings as repulsively stupid as I do? It interrupts my Thursday evening as you have MAY ( a very good show) and then Wings before Seinfeld and Frasier (not that bad either). I know it doesn't get bad ratings, but most people I know who like Seinfeld and MAY find it, to be frank, dumb. This is not intended to be a flame, just a start to a conversation.
BTW, my two favorite episodes are definitely "The Airport" and "The Boyfriend"
Yeah, it seems kinda lame, especially when between Mad About You and Seinfeld. BUT, the blond, souther-accent, major babe (Helen) is worth watch (or drooling) !

I think it's pretty stupid -- but maybe someone can help me here. I _thought_ I caught an episode in its first season and enjoyed it; but when I checked the show out again, months later, it seemed to have changed into another dumb gag show.
Am I right? Did the show change?

Well start it some place else. This newsgroup already has too many non-seifeld posts. Take it alt.tv.wings or alt.tv.who.gives.a.shit or maybe alt.stupid.tv .

I agree that "Wings" is stupid, but I guess that's O.K., because I get to do non-TV stuff between "Simpsons" and "Seinfeld." It seems like basically every episode involves some guy hitting on Crystal Bernard and one of the brothers taking the plane to Hartford or Providence.

I have to totally agree about WINGS. I'm glad someone else thinks this show is an absolute bore. NBC should realize this show ruins an excellent night of television. Seinfeld is by far the best, but Frasier is right there in the running.
I would not flame anyone on personal tastes, but will give mine too.
When Wings first came on I didn't like it. BUt after a while I got into the characters and eventually grew to enjoy it a lot. USA shows it about 50 times a day. So I have seen them all. I will aggree some are lame, but then again, some are hilarious. I think Lowell and the Taxi driver are hilarious.
Other shows I didn't like at first,but they grew on me and are now my favorites:
Coach: didn't even watch the 1st season, now one of my favorites MAY: hated it, but my wife loved it, now I think it's great Seinfeld: Hated it, loved it, now starting to hate again. It's getting lame Fraiser: Hated it, trying to give it a chance Cheers: loved it, loved it, and loved it ---

Yeah, but you can use the half-hour to watch The Simpsons. Tape it while you watch MAY and you can squeeze it into the time slot.
My wife and I prefer the opposite approach. We usually watch the Simpsons "live" while taping MAY, and then watch Paul and Jamie before Seinfeld. We find that to be the optimal order. Would that NBC switched MAY and Wings!

I, too hate Wings. The only reason it's popular is because it used to be on after Cheers, and now it has a good slot in between MAY and Seinfeld. I'm sure the show might get allright ratings on it's own, but nowhere as near as it is now.

What's up with all the people trashing Wings. I think it is a very funny show. No show survives for six seasons just because of a time slot esp. when it moves around. Right now it get better ratings than MAY which is on before it. If any show has become predictable it's Seinfeld.
Every week Jerry has a new girlfriend, there is a misunderstanding about her a Jerry tries to figure a way out. With the exception of the Bakery episode the recent ones have followed this formula. The girl who George thinks he sees with Jerry's cousin and the girl who has the antifungal rub are two examples. For the main plot they were the same show.
Give Wings a break.

Leaving WINGS aside, it's hard to view the Seinfeld shtick, which has been on now for 4 years, as terribly original. Still a good show, mind you, but I'm starting to find the characters a pain in the ass.

The characters aren't getting along as well as they were in the early seasons... but that's just like life, ain't it? And although the show isn't "terribly original", I find it much more original than the majority of garbage that is on primetime TV nowadays (this is speaking about only the sitcoms and not the dramas)... Seinfeld is really good about bringing up those things that you don't think about consciously... I like the one where Jerry's car gets stolen and then he and Sid get into that discussion that goes something like this:
S: I'm going to leave this Wednesday. J: You mean, NEXT Wednesday. S: No, I mean this Wednesday. J: But this Wednesday IS the next Wednesday. S: If I'd meant next Wednesday, I would have said "next Wednesday".
Tiny little dialogues like this make up the bulk of the show and always gets a "Huh, that's right..." out of someone watching the show.
