If anyone here has seen _UHF_ or the episode of _Night Court_ where Richards claims to be invisible, you'll notice that his characters are always "Kramer-like": goofy, yet eccentric. Is he typecast? Dunno if he'll always get these kinds of characters, but I do think his manner lends himself to playing them well.

I used to be one of the few regular viewers of "Fridays", the Saturday Night copy where I first saw Michael Richards.
Two regular characters were the Cool guy and the Kid in the sand box. The kid in the sandbox was supposed to be about seven He would spend his time playing with toy soldiers, usually having them die in offbeat horrible ways.
The Cool guy, for lack of a proper name, was a guy who thought he was a sauve ladies man, but was really a nervous screw up.
Neither were prototypes of Kramer. The cool guy could have been a distant relative, though this was years before Seinfeld.
The guy who played the Rabbi, and George's girlfriend, (the fire at the birthday party - Melanie Chartoff) were also "Friday" Regulars.

My memory may be incorrect but the character he played in Cheers, Eddie Gordon, who made the bet with Sam was a more sophisticated swinger type without any silly mannerisms. He played Eddie straight and was very convincing. Not 'Kramer-like' at all.
