Late Show

Just heard a rumor that while David Letterman is recovering from heart surgery CBS may get guest hosts to replace him on the Late Show, and that they are considering Jerry Seinfeld to host the show for a few weeks. Anyone heard any details on this?

I doubt it. I've read quotes by Jerry saying he'd couldn't do a job like that because he couldn't pretend to like peoples movies that he hated.

guest hosts for the late show is just a stupid idea which dave would vehemently oppose. having said that, howard stern would make an awesome late night host on a traditional talk show such as dave's. if not howard, it would be perhaps most interesting to see someone way way left field guest hosting; such as pauly shore, or carrot top. the absurdity would make it truly must see tv.

i don't know if anyone else has seen the pauly shore hbo special from, about '92, i think it was. it's heinous and thoroughly unfunny and you wonder how shore ever got on tv. at the same time, it's undeniably compelling; so bad it's good. in other words, i don't jest. i heard a rumor shore's act was strictly an ironic stab at the "weasel" character he was doing in the early '90's. (i seriously doubt this is the case.) if it's true though, i must say he's the most brilliant comedy mind since...well, seinfeld. or andy kaufman.

I think you are probably right, but it would be cool if CBS, Dave and Jerry came to the logical conclusion that a 4 week run would be a "one shot" deal. Kind of like a big star in a mini-series. Anyway, for a four week run Jerry could dump the cheesy guests/movies angle and do something totally unique. He would be great in a round table like setting--like Politically Incorrect except about life and without Bill Maher's tendency to be an a@##%@. I think a show like the old Bob Costas show except with four relatively popular shows having an actual conversation would be great. Jerry would not feel the pressure of "performing". They don't even have to call it the Late Show, just a temp replacement The only problem would be if it actually gained monster ratings, then it would be tempting, but Jerry has enough money not to be tempted by that.

Anyway, just a thought.

I personally think it could happen, but it seems more than likely just wishful thinking. Jerry is still preparing new material for his standup tour that is supposed to start before the summer arrives. Sorry to sound unhopeful.
