Unwatchable Ellie

Were it not for the awful laugh track, it would get no laughs at all.

How can that be? According to most of the people in this group, Dreyfus is a comic genius on a level with Lucille Ball. Are you sure you're watching the right show?

I've never laughed at Lucille Ball. She's annoying.

When she's given something (script) good to act with. Watching Ellie is horrible. And I don't blame her. Julia cracked me up good when she was on Seinfeld.

How can you *not* blame her? The show is produced by J-Lou and her husband. The "real-time, clock in the corner" mess was their idea, and then when it was time to retool the show, it was up to them to do so. She is not "given" bad scripts...she seeks them out. She hires the writers and she sure as hell has the clout to veto an unfunny script. It's her baby. If it was a hit, she'd deserve the credit....as a flop, she gets the blame.

She was the worst of a terrible cast on SNL, got lucky with good scripts on Seinfeld but was incapable of doing much more than telegraphing her "funny" lines with facial ticks and body language. Now she's on her own and her true "talent" is apparent.
