Last episode... How many of you think it wat great? How many thought it sucked?

I hear a lot of badmouthing about the last episode. The truth is it was great. I think that you have to be a true Seinfeld fan to really enjoy it and to get most of the jokes. The people who hated it almost ALWAYS are the "Kramer is the best" types. They are people who don't get the humor of the misfortune of the other three... all they understand is the slapstick comedy provided by Kramer... that's my opinion.

I know I'll get flamed for this...please refrain from doing so...I loved it. It was brilliant in idea and structure. I would've liked to see them get community service - I feel like it would've been a more ironic way to go for these guys - but I'm sure they looked at that and decided that jail was a better idea. And they'd know more about it than I would. So I accept and support it in full, just as I fully accepted and supported the decision to go out on top.

I thought it was great, not the best Seinfeld ever, not even the best episode of the final season (I liked The Maid, The Burning, and The Reverse Peephole a lot more), but I really liked The Finale. What I think is weird is that everyone is so saying at how divided people are over the final episode. Its not like all the other Seinfeld episodes aren't divided also. I know a lot of people who hated "The Marine Biologist" or "The Outing", and those are two of the best episodes ever. Same thing goes for other final episodes, some people hated the Newhart ending, while a lot of people liked it. Its probably because no other episode has been hyped like the final Seinfeld had been.

I loved the second part, the trial with one exception, Geraldo. Like someone else said in here, like with Steinbrenner or Peterman, they should have used someone else to spoof Geraldo, or have Geraldo do a caricature of himself. It was too "real" and not at all funny.

I thought the first part had a few good ideas but moved way too slowly. And "bleak is bleak" was one of the weakest lines in all Seinfeld.

Not sure I'd go THAT far...though it certainly was very GOOD television. While it certainly was a far better finale and more consistent with the tone of the whole series than the much-overpraised MASH finale of 15 years ago, it might have been better still with a little stricter editing and faster pacing. (Was it left at an hour and fifteen minutes be- cause it couldn't be trimmed...or just because NBC wanted to put in an extra stop-set at a $2 million price per spot, rather than the $1.3 million top price for spots in the clip show?)

Nevertheless, give it an A on the curve that takes into account all network sitcoms (almost every Seinfeld episode after the pilot would get at least an A- by that standard)...and a B+ when judged against Seinfeld's own standard. It was an above-average Seinfeld and by definition a far-above- average hour of comedy television...but perhaps not up to everyone's unrealistically heightened expectations after all the hype.

As to the ending...it certainly made sense, and confirmed once and for all that Seinfeld and David were NOT doing a show about "nothing," but about satirizing contemporary values (or lack thereof) through affectionate, but unsparing humor. The ultimate irony, of course, is knowing that even getting their just desserts won't change them a whole lot. Folks who saw the Sartre subtext in the finale (on top of a previous Pinter subtext and other literary and dramatic allusions through- out the course of the series) may have had a little extra fun. But you didn't need to be a comparative literature student to have a lot of fun with the show on a lot of levels (and I don't mean the levels Kramer tried and failed to build in his apart- ment either...)

We were all privileged to share in their dementia....and we've got 180 half-hours to enjoy in syndication again and again, as well...

Using the Seinfeld standard I'd give it an F as I can't think of a worse episode and I've seen them all. With all the inside jokes, watching the final episode was as much fun as playing "Where's Waldo" (is it really funny that they named the Judge Arthur Vandalay?) and the normally inspired banter between the characters was tired and flat this time out.

I personally hated the fact that they put the characters in a moral framework in the final episode and I think that went against the spirit of the show. Remember "no hugging, no learning"? Well the last episode certainly had no hugging but the belated attempt to draw something profound out of their pettiness, shallowness, and selfishness, along with a lot of other qualities that made the characters funny, was, IMO, unwelcome.
