Newman's first name

I my spin is that it does indeed mean he is Norman Newmen. Some people at the time argued that the farmgirl was mangling Newman into Norman. But I think it's far fetched.

This is concerning Newman's first name and to what other people's theory of it is (from the farmer's daughter episode). The farmer's daughter that called Newman, Norman probably forgot Newman's name and thought that it was Norman. It was not a mistake by the actress and Newman's name is not Norman. It made complete sense to me when I was watching the show, why doesn't anyone else understand this?

I understand this. I agree with the agrument that she (the character not the actress) called him Norman showing us that she didn't even know his name even though she claimed to love him. It made complete sense to me in this way too when I was watching the show. It was a subtle joke as is typical on the show. I think that the character was supposed to be a country girl that is so isolated from men by her father, that the first man she sees she wants. Newman is supposed to be repulsive to most everyone.

Not a mistake? And you know this because? I've already responded to this thread twice, but here's my answer again. At a recent taping, Jerry Seinfeld himself said that the actress slipped-up. Everyone involved felt the actress' gaffe was more humorous than the intended line, so they kept it in. Now, I find it hard to believe that no one had thought of having the bumpkin say an incorrect name, but I'm certainly not going to controvert Mr. Seinfeld (at least not on this matter; concerning his plurality of Porsches... :-)

So you're saying this theory is correct simply because it makes sense? That's just plain silly.

Excuse me, but someone else (sorry, lost the attribution) reported that Jerry Seinfeld himself said "It was a mistake by the actress and we left it in because it was funny." Why do you refute this eyewitness testimony? Do you have corroborating evidence for your position? Or is it just your own unsubstantiated opinion? I think there should be an episode with Kramer going to court to get his name legally changed... to Kosmo! ~~~ Also, how do we know it's Newman and not Neuman? Plus, couldn't either be a first name?

We know it's Newman because he had a buisness card in The Package which said "NEWMAN"...We know it's his last name since he's been called Mr. Newman before...although, he could just be Newman, like Madonna, or Roseanne, since his co-workers call him Newman as well (The Package)

It's not. That was a mistake either on the part of the actress, the writers, or the editors. She was either supposed to say Newman and didn't and the editors didn't catch it, or the writers didn't make it clear that she messed up his name. Wayne Knight himself has said that they will not disclose Newman's full name. Ever.
