Have you been looking for the entire collection of Seinfeld? Are you tired of trying to put one together yourself? After the syndication cuts and banners and things floating across the screen. Is it all less then stellar to complete your collection? We'll I have an offer that all thought is obviously not for everybody, it will appeal to many.

I am offering the complete Seinfeld collection on 12 VHS tapes and 24 Computer CD-r.

These are not just recorded from TV. These are from a studio set given out at the last show to the cast and crew for a job well done. Only thirty sets were made. The sets consisted of 60 SP recorded tapes. These sets are derived from them on to 12 VHS EP tapes and being completed are the easier to afford Cd Rom collection on 24 discs. These Cd ROMs are a good value for anyone. The only drawback of them is that you cannot watch them on a TV for it is limited to your computer screen. Still very comparable as the pluses far outweigh the one drawback.

The CD-ROM versions are recorded on disc using real media compression version 8. After weighing all the options for compressions. This format stood out as the best. It has taken me 5 months to make these digital copies (most of the time was devoted to research and technique). I intended to only make them for my own personal use however, I saw that a lot of fans especially overseas wanted copies of Seinfeld as it is not broadcast in their country. As you may know the format of television is different in other countries. Pal in Europe. Seacam in Asia. NTSC in North America. I guess you could consider this version the universal copy for anyone with a computer and a cd rom. Also this version is not subject to signal degradation like VHS tape is. Until they are all released on DVD one day this might be it. Like I mentioned, this was originally made just for me however cost and time were greater then I thought and I considered sharing a limited number with other fans. The entire set which includes every episode from the very first Seinfeld pilot broadcasted in 89 to the grand finale in 98. All were painstakingly recorded on the computer using a video capture card from ATI. Each episode is around 23 minutes long and each file would consume 800 megabytes of space. Then compressed down (recorded on the highest setting) to a tenth of the size. Each episode took two hours to compress so this computer has been (and still is) on for weeks at a time compressing. I am going to also bind them in a folder labeled very nicely so it will stand out in your collection as a unique item.

Before you dismiss the quality of these, you really must see them. I can send a self contained example on a cd which will be directly from the version. This will be the real media player 8 and 7 or 8 full-length episodes to help you decide.

The cost of the CD-rom set which takes around three hours to reproduce on 24 cd-roms and packaged handsomely for your collection will cost $100. That will include priority shipping also.

If you decide that you would like an example , please send me a confirmation and I will contact you further. IF however you decide right now that is something that just does not interest you then I thank you for your time and patience.

If you have a fast connection then please take a look at two clips from the set. http://www.geocities.com/seinfeldonvhs/results.html

p.s. Please contact me if you are inquiring about the VHS version. They are a higher price but these are difficult to make and expensive so not many people would be interested so I don't waste the space on them. I just discuss them directly

Realmedia is a very lossy compression method marred by artefacts. Recompress them with DivX, its almost VHS quality and roughly the same size as RM. I would love the whole collection, but not when everything is blurry and cut up.

yeah, same with me, rm is kinda crappy, not as nice as the dvx and some times sound get's off sinc with voice. I would put them on dvd so rm would be a real waste

I am always looking for improvements on them I will look into it. Although I assume you have looked at the clips then. They are quite good. Still some artifacts left but I stand by them. Go look at the clips and you will see what I mean. I would like to look into divx thought. Where might I find the encode for it On Tue, 26 Sep 2000 16:30:30 GMT, [email] wrote:

you can download some sample vids there. I'd really love the whole collection, but for me $100 is a lot of money and I'd want something I can watch over and over without wishing for a 'proper' copy. And with artefacts over the place it pretty much spoils the experience imo.

Ack, are you joking? I checked them out, and they're *horrible*. They look like they're only about 320x240, and with a ton of compression artifacts. Why purchase Seinfeld on CD (illegally, no less) if the picture quality is far worse than even a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a VHS tape recorded at SLP?

Nothing personal, but I don't see how that's worth $100.

John Twernbold jtwernbold (at) yahoo.com

Well as this is nothing personal. I am perfectly happy with them the way they are and as I said I did them for myself. I will check out divx and if I do redo them it will just be for myself. I am not sure if it your computer or what. No they are not crystal clear and tv screen sized but I am also not a video house and I have many positive comment.

See, the problem of making them for DVD is that once I do make them after thousands upon thousands of dollars of expense in a recorder alone not to mention the media involved. I would have to charge about a $1000.00 a set. Then everybody would bitch and no one will buy. Then if that weren't enough, someone would buy one and then copy the damn thing and pass my work off as thiers and keep the profits (I know what you are saying. I am doing the same thing. well, yes and no. I am selling the seinfeld episodes and they are not getting royalites (of which there aren't any right now) but I leave in the credits and never claim it is my work...what is my work is the 5 months of digitizing these and losing a lot of sleep becuase I don't have a professional staff to reset the encode cycle every four hours and then burning a whole bunch of coasters experimenting with every compression under the sun thinking I wanted the best and went through countless disc starting over when I found a better technique. And I don't have professional backing (obviously) to by the CD recorder, Labels, Cases for set (professional I might add) and then the postage involved sending out free demos discs to everybody in inquired about themas far a way as new zealand. all expenses paid out of my pocket so that might at least let others (Mostly in other countries who can't get seinfeld 12 times a week) And then trying to figue out why some didn't work that well because of different machine types and cd readers and the sort. Not to mention talking to everyone with kid gloves even when a guy tried black mailing (he has a friend who know an NBC bigwig...don't we all) me in hopes of getting fifty bucks knocked off the price of the tapes. and perhaps the man who really wanted them but thought $100.00 (and it is alot to me as well) and wanted them for free cause after all the cast was not getting any of the money..then of course he suggested he provide the discs and I waste my time copying them for him as it would not cost me anything to give him the data. However when I agreed that ten bucks for my trouble would be fair as copying them would at least consume my time. I agreed that the data would not be harmed in copying them. I also said that they would not have labels just writing on them nor cases. well that 'acceptable' but then he expected me to pay for postage on the return..to brazil. Well I had to nix that..course he got mad and threatened to tell.

I think the problem lies within the consumer wanting something for nothing. After all, everybody wants these without commericals recorded in order of which cuts the advertisers out of the loop so in a sense that is stealing. I also offer copies of the set on tape and EVERYBODY is whining cause their too damn high...yes there high cause they are illegel and I run the risk of getting caught and I don't like making them cause they degrade my copy and they take forever to make.

However I have to say for the most part that people in other countries have liked them and if they didn't they didn't mention it. I guess that is what makes our country so great is that everybody has an opinion and even in this newsgroup everybody does.

I guess you say I take offense to the negitive comments. I understand that everybody has a different take on them and that is fine but when you say they are horrible then that makes me upset and I can say that with no repercusions cause I have given up on these for now on these and will not offer them here cause of course I have already burned the bridge or offended eveyone anyhow. I am just sick and tired of everybody thinking "well I would have done it this way or done it that way" (don't get me wrong the divx thing, if it works sounds great and I am not knocking that person who suggested it very tactfully...maybe if I redo them I will make you a copy for free)

I am beginning to see why customer service in america has gone so down hill as it has, Everybody is an asshole anymore.....how many here have gone to a restuarant and only tipped the waitress a buck or whats left after breaking a buck and ran the waitress ragged and never thanked her and thought it was funny to make her fill your coffee cup five times. And of course no matter what if she wanted a tip she had to be pleasant despite the fact she might have worked a double shift becuase she needed overtime (of which would be four and some change) cuase her baby needed formula. not to mention the fact that her baby might be sick but since her job offers no insurance she can't do much about it....you know most live on tips becuase the place they work for can legally pay them $2.19 an hour cause of course they get tips (of which many places have them claim and collect taxes on tips)

I hope my ranting here has at least made others think alittle (even a second) that the other person might have feelings too.

I realize by offering these I opened the door and by posting this message will cause alot of flames and maybe a discussion that could stretch for weeks on end. but I don't care I have had it. I guess that was the final straw. Don't think I was directing it at you, you just got both barrels as I am fed up with this. I will keep them for myself and to the few that appriciate them and if you all want them even after what I have said then I would be more then happy to sell one to an hoep you enjoy them in there present state and appriciate them for what they are. an unofficial set of the complete sienfeld (totally uncut) recorded at 320x240 at the highest compression availible with the best sound using all the resources I had (you should expirenced my previous effort) to get them to a select few who wanted them. Of course somewhere I lost focus and instead of them being for me and a few I tried to please everyone......Well screw everyone. Nothing is more disappointing then someone telling you your best efforts sucked and they could have done much better but never did.

The morale of this story is "never try" cause if you do in this country (usa) someone will take your idea and try to ride your coat tails or steal it outright (look what happen to Thomas Edison. People pushed him out of his own company and tried to take credit for his inventing the lightbulb and succeeded..watch the biography channel)

and even now as you read this I am sure someone is pointing out my grammer and spelling errors so they can painfully point out there superiority in everything great and steal some of my thunder.

If I offended some of you, then I apologize but I just have had it.

p.s. this christmas when you go to the stores and think it is a mad house think of the poor people that have to work the counter for minimum wage and no benifits (wal mart is the exception I believe ) and think how much christmas spirit they have. everybody that has those high paying $10.00 an hour ( and I confess I do now and I love it cause I have seen the other side) with full benifits job and sweet deals and go to work every day and hope for something better. These people wish they had your job. Think about them and the appriciation they get from helping everone get the hot toy of the season at a lower discount price and can't help but think that had it be marked a little higher he might have a bigger paycheck. Just think of them once and awhile

I fully understand seinfeldonvhs's (real name? ;-)) position. I know all about spending days (and nights) trying to make videos that are playable on each system. I know all about people who bitch endlessly about how its breaking the law. All I want to say to those people is that I don't get *any* Seinfeld where I live. The producers aren't losing a cent if I buy the set. And I don't think many people who live in an area where Seinfeld is played regularly would need to buy the set, so whats the problem??

I've been on the lookout for a set of episodes for almost a year now. VHS is too expensive (and lossy) and I was really excited when I read the subject header of this thread: CD's are easy and fast to copy, and of course its lossless (the copying, not encoding ;-)), but I just think its a pity that there are better encoding formats out there, that give you better quality than RM(Divx quality is between VCD and DVD quality) and the same filesize. I'm still deciding whether or not to just buy the set anyway, artefacts or no artefacts, because of my devotion to Seinfeld.

To the person making these available I can just say: reply to naysayers (explaining your motives etc) but don't let them get to you, theres no point in that.

stuede

COOL....I am glad that you see my point at least. I did take your advice and tried divx but to be honest it was no better in fact it was worse in my experiment. now granted this is running on my machine. I have a clip of star wars episode 1 the fight scene which clocks at 5 minutes. this was the result of my tests.

test machine: Amd k6-2 350 mhz
                      64 megs of ram
ati all in wonder pro video card

all were compressed using vegas video pro

codec RM Divx Mpeg 4
file size 16.4 megs 69 .3 megs 58.2 megs
size 320x240 320x240 320x240
frames 30 30 30
frames on
playback 28-30 12-14 30
artifacts yes yes no
type jaggies blocks none

in my experience the divx was much worse, that might be because of the stream of the hard drive because it would cut everything and load. that might also be the player I used (microsoft windows media player) I don't know, but by my estimatations on a average episode of seinfeld which 24 minutes. under divx it would be around 300 megs while under RM it is around 75 megs

Now I want to thank you for giving me a vote of confidence back. I still stand by everything I said however I Think I still will offer them but be a little better at taking critisim. I realize there are peopl out there with reservations about Rm but I assure you it is not as bad once you see the full thing. you tend to look past it when you consider there is no frame drop due to encode (does happen when hard drive or cd rom is accessed) and the sound and picture are excellent.

Which bring me to my last point. You send your address and name from that email address to mine at [email] and I will send you a complete set on the house. I fell you have been down the same road I have taken and it is frustrating.

Now for everybody else this was a one shot deal for this person. I can't be handed out copies all the time. I believe I will still take orders. the respnse for the demo disc has been tremedous (cause there free) but the orders are still nil as of now.

Thanks all for listening to my rant. [email]

Until now. I received the demo a few days ago and had no problem with the picture quality. And all 180 episodes, with no commercials or syndication cuts, at 55 cents per episode sounds like a good deal to me. Besides, I've already spent over $3000 on Seinfeld related memorabilia, I don't see where another hundred will hurt. E-mail me with a snail mail address and I'll get a check out to you.

Much the same way that you illegally sell episodes of Seinfeld yet expect to not pay royalties to the legal owners? Hypocrisy!

Hey, if others want to pay $100 to a criminal like you for horrible 320x240 artifact-filled episodes, then that's their problem. Perhaps they'd also pay money to squint at blurry postage stamps and peek through keyholes...

If you are a man of such delicate sensiblities that you took offense at my comments, then Usenet is not the place for you. And I hope you don't get caught, for your cellmates will probably be far more negative than I have been.

first and foremost I am not even going to respond after this cause it is wasting valuable bandwidth on an off-topic subject. I will take the high road and say that everybody has thier opinion and every opinion is valid. I would be curious though as to why this is such a hot issue to some. is this something personal. Yes I took offense to my work being critizied however I worked long and hard for it. I am curious though if you did it what would you have used for this project. of course meaning if it was officially blessed.

after that I will waste no more time on this, I have other things to do. I don't want this issue to be a preaching sermon.

Simple--if it's not up to the lowest VHS quality it's not worth any price, even for someone in a country without regularly scheduled reruns. If you have to squint to try and make out Kramer's facial expressions, what's the point? People looking for episodes of Seinfeld would enjoy them more if they just traded tapes with other fans, rather than spending $100 for your CDs with their unwatchably poor visual quality. Why bother getting uncut episodes if it's painful to watch 'em?

As for the legal issues, don't get me wrong--I'm no saint. But it's pretty hypocritical for you to get all defensive and talk about others stealing your work when *you* are doing far worse. If you're going to commit a crime, don't attempt to pass yourself off as such a compassionate good samaritan.

John Twernbold jtwernbold (at) yahoo.com

If I can pop it into my laptop and watch it on a cross country flight, then it's easily worth 55 cents per episode. (Not much room in Coach for the TV/VCR, then there's that whole electrical outlet issue.)

I just got done watching one. I'll just say that "unwatchably poor" and "painful to watch" are strictly your opinions. Possibly exaggerated, as it furthers your case against the method seinfeldonvhs chose to use. Now, I'm no technophile, so I can't discuss the intricacies of picture quality, but I got to watch a great episode with a clear enough picture for me to see everything that happened and I didn't have to fire up a TV or VCR to do it. What more could I ask for?

Depends on your perspective. I don't think this guy's doing enough business to harm Castle Rock/Ted Turner/Jerry Seinfeld/whomever. If I was a billionaire, I don't know that I'd begrudge a guy trying to make some chump change. "Seinfeld" itself did a great bit on the ethical issues concerning pirating first run movies for sale on the streets of Manhattan in "The Little Kicks."

I prefer to sweep the legal issue right under the rug and not give it a second thought. None of us are saints. I suppose since I'm buying a set, then my personal ring of hell won't be too far from the guy's who's selling it to me.

Good point. I was thinking of my own viewing habits, and given the choice between watching a grainy little version on my monitor or watching it full-screen and beautiful on my TV, I'd choose the latter every time, no matter the price. But since I don't fly much, I didn't even think of that application.

Right, I thought of that. lol, for viewing at home I might even prefer Kramer's version--at least the picture quality would be better, even if ya' get an eyeful of a box of popcorn and the guy sitting in the next seat. :-)

Again, I didn't make an issue of it until he became defensive and whined about people ripping *him* off. The hypocrisy is probably more contemptible than the actual bootlegging. "People who live in glass houses", etc.

ROFL! Speaking of not being a saint, a former roommate always used to tease me about going to hell. When the Seinfeld episode "The Burning" was first aired, he had to call me up to let me know he thought of me during Elaine and Puddy's scenes. "What do you care, you're already going to hell..." :-)

John Twernbold jtwernbold (at) yahoo.com

It's also fabuilous for transcribing episodes. If I had to constantly rewind a tape, I'd never bother. But it's just sooooo convenient to have Real Player running alongside Notepad, and it only takes a mouse click to jump to any spot in the episode.

LOL. Don't forget a few moments of Elaine's funky dancing at the end of the tape!

You cry, then you see the dancing, and you cry again.

Fair enough. I guess he sort of set himself up for that.

That's one of my favorite episodes from Season 9. "You stole my Jesus fish, didn't you?"

Interestingly enough, not long after that episode first aired, the Darwin fish mysteriously disappeared from my car. I wondered if there was a connection, but it couldn't have been a Seinfeld fan, he would have seen my MOOPS bumper sticker and left me alone.

lol, isn't that followed by Elaine admitting she did, and making a devil's face with horns? It's even better when the priest does it with her later on, after she claims they're not getting married, but just "having a good time". "Oh, in that case you're BOTH going to hell!" :-)

I love that nothing is reverent, especially religion--the priest telling them they're going to hell (and mocking them), the rabbi spilling people's secrets, the visiting priest thinking Elaine is the Virgin Mary (and, in a quirky bit of foreshadowing, thinking Puddy was the devil. "The Devils! The DEVILS!" "El Diablo!" lol). Then there are the two funerals (one with the Susie sex stories, the other with idle chitchat), and the wedding in India

Man, I keep thinking of more: Whatley's conversion to Judaism ("Whatley!") and Jerry's Anti-Dentitism, George's conversion to Latvian Orthodox and Kramer's kavorka, the bar mitzvah and Elaine's shiksappeal, the bris and the the mohel, Schindler's List with proper audience behavior to satisfy one's Jewish parents.

What other religious bits were there?

This portion of the rant interested me enough to respond, so I'd like to share my tipping philosophy. When I dine out, a tip is not a foregone conclusion. I absolutely disagree with adding an automatic 15% to a bill, and I *never* return to a restaurant that engages in that practice. Don't get me wrong, if I receive good service, I generally overtip. Usually 25-30% of the bill, sometimes more. I like to see the look on a server's face when I hand them way too much and tell them to keep it, that they earned it.

But if I get crappy service, that server usually only gets the change up to the next dollar. It's the best way to let someone know they may be in the wrong business, or at least that they're coming across to their customers in a negative way, without getting management involved.

I work in tech support, and have come to learn the value of excellent customer service. I insist on doing my best when it comes to my customers and I expect nothing less from those who are paid to serve me. Interesting story, last month I got my car insurance bill for next year and for no good reason it had been increased by over $300 from this year. I had no tickets, no accidents, nothing. Turns out Progressive didn't care, they needed to raise *my* rate because their actuaries were unsuccessful in determining good insurance risks vs bad ones. Anyway, as luck would have it, one of those GEICO commercials was playing on the TV as I was talking to my agent. I jotted down the number and called. They saved me a lot of money, but the representative was so pleasant, so personable, that when we were through I asked to speak with his manager. When she got on the line, I proceeded to tell her what a fabulous job the rep had done, and that he should be recognized in some way for his service. She agreed and said they do have a program whereby reps who receive these sorts of compliments are rewarded with restaurant gift certificates and other such items. Now, there was no way I could 'tip' this guy for his fine work, so I found another way to let him know I appreciated what he did and how he did it.

Anyway, if it's not too late to make a long post short, I would imagine that any waiter or waitress who receives enough chintzy tips will get the hint and either improve their social and occupational skills or find a new line of work.

Side note: Waitresses who put their name and a smiley face on the bill generally receive about 10% more in tips that waitresses who don't. It's true, I read it in Men's Health magazine. It's psychological. Also, waitresses who kneel down to take your order, so their face is at your eye level, and waitresses who place their hand on your back or shoulder, just for a moment as they're walking away to put in your order, will usually see an increase as well. If your example above stems from a real life incident, i.e., the waitress you describe is someone you know, then pass along these tips.

well all the experiences came from an actual waitress my wife she was real good at when it was real busy and always got excellent tips for the most part. however as business would dwindel and the people that she dreaded (the chronic no-tippers, the run you ragged, the send it back no matter what...etc) and it stressed her out way to much. and yes they replaced her (she moved to the kitchen to cook) with a lot of dim wits who could never make change, remember an order. I also was a delivery driver for the same restuarant and I personally have to say that I tried to give the best service (fast, friendly, reponsive). for the most part I made good tips and had alot of nice customers. however there were the few I dreaded going to that were going to be nasty (order always wrong, never fast enough etc..) that you knew that weren't going to tip anyhow but I tried to be just as nice to them as everyone else(it was hard some times).

A lot of times when we order like pizza and such I go pick it up becuase many times the drivers are ot that cordial and courteous. we once had a driver from pizza hut deliver stone drunk..and driving. we already had a check written out so the tip was on it. I called the manager who said he would take care of it...that is just wrong..not that he was drunk...but that he was driving. well since I am a tipping person.. I feel obligated to tip regardless of the service..mostly becuase I know that it is not easy.

I understand that tips should not be expected ( I never expected them. in fact I would give them all their change back and then start to walk away and if they felt I deserved a tip they would stop me)

p.s. my wife was also an english major and notified me that "alot" is not a word. guess it is just a habit. maybe she shoud spell check them

literary mistake. :-)

PS - talking about English, ... if anyone cares about "Wanna Be A Millionaire" Last night as I became really bored with another NFL snoozer, I channel surfed and saw one question. It was, "How many other letters in the English alphabet rhyme with the letter "B"? "

They said 8 - C,D,E,G,P,T,V, AND Z.

Now I thought that was a trick question because in the ENGLISH alphabet "Z" is pronounced "Zed" not "Zee" as it is in the AMERICAN Alphabet. So I would have said 7, thinking they really meant the ENGLISH alphabet. Okay, so who cares anyway right?

The show is culturally biased.

Jackie: Regis said Zed was Zee? In the *English* alphabet?!? That's outrageous, egregious... preposterous! <through intercom> Suzie, Call Dr. Bison. Set up an appointment for Mr. News Guy here. Tell him it's from me.

Mike: So ah, what do you think Mr. Chiles.

Jackie: Jackie.

Mike: Jackie. I mean, do we have a chance?

Jackie: Do we have a chance? You get me one Canadian sympathizer on that jury, you gonna walk outta there a rich man.
