In The Heart Attack Jerry watches a movie when he is half asleep and writes down something he thought was funny but can't read his writing so he has people help him. Someone tells him it says: Don't mess with Johnny. Jerry wonders if that refers to Mr. Carson.
In The Cheever Letters (I think) George is eating with Susan's family and he does a Carson impression.
The Hamptons: George's girlfriend is topless and Jerry says that is some weird wild stuff.

Passing mentions to Jerry having appeared on the Tonight Show while Carson hosted it (as well as a two-parter revolving around a trip to LA to appear after Jay Leno took over).
Small tidbit...Carson is one of Jerry's heroes and he took him to dinner around the time the show ended last spring just to spend an evening with him saying "thanks." Johnny remains an icon for all contemporary comedians. Too bad Johnny's really taking his retirement so seriously...I think we'd all like to see him again. Not everyone would like to see a return of Carson. He can stay retired (and out of sight) as far as I'm concerned.

The Carson ref was Uncle Leo complaining that Johnny didn't let Jerry talk much.

I've often wondered (although I havent researched it) that it has been a long time since Johnny retired is it possible really that TV Jerry would have been on "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson"? We Know that in "The Trip part 1" he goes on Leno's show and that's a year later in real time.

I think The Pen came out in 1991 and Carson retired in 1992.

Those celebrities are getting harder to find and maybe this is nothing but while watching "The Handicap spot" the gang is driving to the shopping mall and George says: "I like this area.... I could live here." Kramer: " Yeah we oughta get a house and all live together out here." Jerry interrupts sarcastically: "Yeah it's a good idea.....I'll tell ya what Chuckles I give permission to sublet my room right now."
Chuckles ? I remember a Chuckles the clown from the Mary Tyler Moore Show . Was there another one? If there's one thing I learned working on this list is that Jerry rarely says something for nothing.
