Baseball...

Despite everyone's posts on how much they hate baseball - how many of you actually watched at least one game? I could've cared less who won the series, but last night's game was one of the best I have seen - it was incredibly tense. Hope you all were so blinded by your hatred of the series so much for pre-empting Seinfeld that you couldn't see a highly enjoyable game (which I'll admit, I didn't turn on until after Simpsons and X-Files were over...) I watched every inning of every Marlins playoff game for the past 3 weeks. I was at game 1 vs. San Fran, I also got to a game vs. Atlanta, and the first 2 against the Indians. For a Marlins championship, I would have given nearly anything. And it happened. Now I can get back to watching Seinfeld.

Anyway, yes I do have the jersey, wore it to Game 1, as a matter of fact. You see, I've been a Dodger fans for 20 years, but, living in South Florida, it's always been a bitch to get to a game, ya know? So, 5 years ago, I get a local team. Great. Now I get the Dodgers twice a year. Well, a home team can grow on you. 5 years later, I still love the Dodgers like Seinfeld, but will root my heart out for the Marlins where the Dodgers are no longer concerned. If LA had beaten SF, you bet your ass I would have backed LA against Fla, but once LA was eliminated, well, the choice was easy.

Anyway, gotta run. Ya see, they've got this huge ticker tape parade planned today, culminating with a massive 'love fest' at Joe Robbie Stadium tonight. Can't wait to get out there and show the Fish how much we appreciate the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP that they just won from Cleveland.

If the old 2 division system still existed, the Marlins would have won the Eastern Division, so the fact that they were in the same division as the Braves should not diminish their achievement. As for the weak division argument of the AL Central, when the Twins won the world series in 1987 they had fewer wins than the Indians this year, and the Mets had fewer wins in 1973 when they made it to the World Series. I don't remember people saying that the Twins were paper champions in 1987. It is the system that makes the division champs, not the best record.

The Marlins have played this way the entire season, so it is no fluke that they won the World Series.

Yes, I did watch some of it. Yes, it was mediocre. No, the Marlins are not a great team. Oh, and thank you for the advice on sticking to hockey. Ratboy, you are sooo wise. We are lucky to have you here to down our opinions and tell us what to do.

The Braves would have won the West, the Marlins would have won the
East, and the Fish would have (and did) kick the Braves' asses in the LCS.
Realignment had no effect on the outcome.  The Marlins we're simply
following destiny.
