What these people are saying is that the new millenium really starts on 1/1/01, thus the old millenium ends on 12/31/00. Newman wanted his party to be on 12/31/99, which is the day everyone considers to be "the millenium change", regardless of whether there was a year 0 or not. It was just a good Jerry vs. Newman gag, and these people are analyzing it WAAY too much :).

I think the problem was that Newman wanted his party to be on 12/31/99, but he made the reservation for the Millenium, so his party was in fact booked for the REAL Millenium, which is 12/31/00, a year later than everyone else's Millenium party, and a year later than Kramer's party.

I agree with this post... when Newman booked his party he did it for "the millenium" which is really 12/31/00. That's why Jerry says, "Your party would be one year late... and thus very lame..." Since everyone of course is going to party like its 1999 and not 2000.
