Worst episode by bar

Everytime I see "The Pen" episode, I cannot believe how it just lies there like a lead weight.

It's the only episode I have to turn off. No pacing whatsoever.

It's not that bad. Once you watched the whole series a few times and got to know all the secondary characters, you can get over the fact that Kramer and George are not in this episode and enjoy it. Picturing Jerry with his sunglasses, and Elaine all drugged-up, standing for the photography, always makes me crack. Now I understand your point, and that's exactly why I transcribed this episode (and The Masseuse too). I was fearing anyone else wouldn't wanna do these. I don't like these 2 episodes as much as the others. Thank, I was able to pay me a treat before the transcribing ended, by doing my favorite episode (Pilot 1 and 2) which is also, now, after watching the whole series several times in chronological order, where I believe the series should have ended (ouch, I foresee replies to that one... :)

Surely you jest! Season 5 was much better than Season 4. Not to mention the highlights of Seasons 6, 7, and even 8! IMO, Season 5 was the Zenith.

Season 5 deserves that honor for having "The Opposite" alone (not to mention "The Puffy Shirt", etc.), imho.

I'm not saying the series stopped being funny from season 5 (quite the contrary), but the humour took a different path from what it was following 'till the pilot. Not to mention the 180� of season 8 and 9.

I wouldn't be surprised to read someday that Larry David thought of ending the series at season 4 (from Good News Bad News to The Pilot, there is IMO a perfect philosophico-humoristic complete circle)

Each time I watch The Mango, right after The Pilot, I feel like I have to make a change of attitude to keep enjoying the show.

I watched it again last night. Absolutely hilarious. I love Morty raving about scotch tape, the $19.45 cheque, the momentum of gossip that builds about the gift of the pen.

I agree. I think it's excellent - Jerry's frustration and disbelief of how the old folk of Florida react to something as insignificant as the pen is hilarious. As is Jerry's mum telling him what to do with the gift etc.

My personal least favorite episode has always been "The Barber"...There was just something about that episode that didn't feel right...At first I didn't even find the episode all that funny, but over the years in reruns I have come to at least laugh at the episode...

It was different. The way they imported operatic music and used broad Italian dialect humor was a serious detour. But, at the same time, it was fresh and very funny! "That Johnny Depp, he make-a me cry." The stereotyping was so over-the-top and this was kind of odd coming a couple of episodes before "The Cigar Store Indian" with its satire of PC.

But as I said elsewhere in this thread I'm a big Season 5 supporter. There are few so-so episodes (IMO "The Bris", "The Masseuse", "The Conversion", "The Dinner Party" (though this is pretty popular among other fans), "The Fire", and "The Raincoats") but even these would've been par for the course in Season 4. Looking at the list of episodes it strikes me that Season 5 used a lot of silly get-ups for laughs: puffy shirts; ladies' glasses (and goggles!); bad haircuts; Gortex jackets; and so on. I guess this trend started with George's ill-fitting tux in "The Opera" but they played oit to the hilt here. In other sitcoms this would've seemed gimmicky but "Seinfeld" maximized the laughs.

Wow, Season 6 had some great ep's too!

For me the least funny episodes are "Male Un-bonding" and "The Heart Attack". I don't laugh at all when I watch those shows.

I watched The Heart Attack tonight. I've personnaly known people like Tor Ackman and because I can relate, the scene with Tor is hilarious, and Tor is one of my favorite character (Gary Fogel too). I would have liked to see these 2 characters in other episodes.

Can you relate or not? If you can it's funny, otherwise, it's not.

To truly get the humor of this episode, you should realize that it is a parody of the famous Italian opera "The Barber of Seville." The opera music, crazy schemes, cover-ups, and Italian barber weren't just accidental. That's what I love about Seinfeld- the way the writers slowly drop hints until you realize the episode is a satire- the movie "JFK", and Nixon leaving the White House were other good ones.

Yeah, that's "The Dinner Party". This one seems to be pretty popular but I don't like it because it's based on the cliched premise that anything that can go wrong will go wrong. There's some funny dialog along the way ("look to the cookie" and the stuff about presenting a 2-liter bottle of Pepsi as a party gift) but seeing Jerry and Elaine getting aced out on the chocolate babka and all the other mishaps becomes tedious, IMO.

"The Airport" is another popular one that I don't like because it just seems cliched to me (what's hoakier than airplane comedy for a standup act?) with everything going to crap for Elaine in coach and everything being wonderful for Jerry in First Class.

Did you see it in syndication?!? I've been taping the episodes for a while now, and "The Dinner Party" is the only episode I haven't got! Ironically, it was preempted on the night of (or just a day or two later than) the start of the attack on Iraq, given that there is a Saddam lookalike in the episode. I had presumed that it had been temporarily pulled from syndication because of the Hussein ref...

The episode I never really enjoyed is the one where George parks neighborhood cars and Kramer attempts to star in a Woody Allen movie. The part where they put cookies in the old guy's mouth is particularly unfunny.
