Fans discuss a mysterious project that George was given by Wilhelm, with unclear details about whether it involved planting trees or shrubs for Steinbrenner.

ok remember the project given to George by Wilhelm. Anybody every figure out what it was. I was reminded of it by hearing the the Petula Clark song on tv

They never really said explicitly, but didn't Wilhelm and his Mrs have a discussion about planting trees or shrubs for Steinbrenner ?

IIRC the gardener had done it. The point was simply to indicate that Wilhelm had given someone else credit for something he'd done himself. Thus solving the mystery of why Wilhelm thought George had done the project and why (re. Steinbrenner's reaction) it had obviously been done.

What the project actually *was* however remains (and was probably intended to remain) forever a mystery.
