What does everyone reckon the chances of Jerry & Larry David doing an audio commentary if Seinfeld was ever to be released on DVD?
Also, does anyone know the average length of rough-cut episodes before they were edited down to fit the 30 minute time slots? Just to get an idea of how many deleted scenes would be there to be put of as extras.
I believe they are 22 minutes long. Syndication is shorter I think.
As far as Jerry doing an SAP for the DVDs...highly likely...but it would take a great deal of time with 180 eps.
What I cannot understand, for the life of me, is why there is no release date etc from Castle Rock or WHOEVER. NOTHING.
Every other imaginable piece of (series TV) garbage is being released on DVD...stuff still running etc.
THEY claim that was the reason why they haven't released (it) - if you can see it for free, why would anyone pay for it ?

I think they should split up the commentaries among the various cast and crew. Between Jerry, Larry David, Julia, Michael, Jason, the directors, the writers, and all the other stars (Newman, J. Peterman, the Seinfeld's and Costanza's, etc.), you could have a couple people do a commentary for each episode without it being too taxing on their schedules.

Well, they don't create a 30-minute show and then cut it down to 22 minutes. During the initial editing, their goal is a length of 22 minutes. There may be some extra lines of dialogue which get cut (and could be added to a DVD), but there's no standard intermediate length before it's reduced to 22 minutes. I doubt you'd find entire scenes which were cut from each episode. Sitcoms aren't like feature films, which often have a half-hour or more deleted from the rough cut.
That would depend on the show. No two would be alike. I saw a taping of Bob Patterson last August, and it started at about 4:30 and we didn't get out until midnight. Every scene was done 2-3 times, and sometimes they would do pick-ups too. So I imagine there would be at least an hour of footage for each episode.
