Rating for "The Label Maker"

This episode was alright. It did have some funny situations. Namely the Kramer/Newman Risk game, w/ Kramer running out into the street holding the Risk board to chase his car that's being towed away. The George situation was also amuzing. The thing I love about Seinfeld is that however crazy or absurd the characters are acting, you almost always sympathize with them. At least I do. Not too many memorable lines in this one, except maybe "...I'm a little insulted." "You're not a little anything, Newman." -Newman and Jerry

I give this episode a 5 out of 10(Average).

The Label Maker gets a 6

This was a keeper because of the coining of the phrase "re-gifter" and the above mentioned like "You're not a little anything Newman." I have to wonder about Elaine being so stand-offish to Watley. She wanted to go out with him before, and we know how desperate she is to land a doctor. I think the Elaine we know and love would have jumped at the chance to 'go downtown' with a Dentist. He definately passes the sponge worthy test.

I give it a 7-7.5. Reasons :

- the board game is hilarious, with Newman trying to cheat. - coining of the words "re-gifting" and "de-gifting" - and best of all, the continuation from The Switch when George applies the idea of the menage-a-trois to himself, using the same words Jerry used.

Other pluses, as people have mentioned : - "You're not a little anything, Newman." - "Well ,I don't trust this guy. I think he regifted and then degifted and now

he's using an upstair invite as a springboard to a superbowl sex romp ! "

And I have to say this ratings idea is great one.

I'd give it a 7 based on the reflected glory of The Switch. Apart from that I think it's just adequate. And it kind of irritates me that at the end Elayne and Whatley are "in love" and then the whole thing is just dropped. (I haven't the last 3 series so could be open to contradiction.) It's kind of like the end of The Deal going unmentioned afterwards.

Well then, allow me to add my 8.5. I loved this ep. Any time the writers set out to pick apart a bit of social behavior, it's usually comedy gold. The gifter/regifter/degifter plot explored the gift giving ritual in a manner befitting "Seinfeld."

BTW, there was one joke in the episode that was so subtle that I didn't pick up on it the first few times I saw it (OK, maybe I'm slow...)

When Jerry asks Elaine what Whatley said when she gave him the label maker, she said "Oh, a label maker." Jerry explains that isn't a good sign when the person mentions the name of the gift...

Later in the episode, in the now-empty apartment, George gives his girlfriend a cactus, and she says "Oh, a cactus." (Evidently the studio audience didn't pick up on this, as the line didn't get a laugh!)

I love "The Label maker" . The George m�nage-a-trois sequel to "The switch" and the Tim Whatley / Elaine plotline is another one of my faves. I'd also add that it features one of Jerry's greatest line:

"Well ,I don't trust this guy. I think he regifted and then degifted and now he's using an upstair invite as a springboard to a superbowl sex romp."

I like this episode, a solid 6. Why? The Risk-game was hilarious ("Ukraine is weak!"), the term "re-gifter" and "de-gifter". (I'm a big fan of such twists to the English language.) And anything with Newman is at least a five.
