George sleeps under the desk

In that episode I thought the cabinets in Jerry's apt. were pretty good looking, except for the opposite side of the cabinets which was pure wood. Also, when everyone started to swim in the river because it helped their back, wouldn't any of them be concerned about the chronic BO that results from the pollution? Especially Elaine Benes, who returned the orthopedic bed because it smelled horrible. Now she is smelling herself up! Anyway, to get to the point and subject of this message, why would you hide under a desk when there was a bomb threat, and why would Jerry make a dumb request like fitted hats? Nobody cares!

What does George do? I mean, what job does he do for the Yankees? He's the assistant to the traveling manager, but what exactly does that occupation require on to do?

The humor in this is that Steinbrenner is from the WW2 generation. Schools use to have bomb drills and students were instructed to go under their desks. Obviously this bomb threat was not an aerial attack. That's what makes it funny. Jerry makes a request for a fitted hat because he wanted a hat like the players wear, plus he wanted to mess with Steinbrenner.

They arrange travel schedules for the players. He has also been involved in promotions.

When I was in grade school in the early 50's we kids were all issued military style dog tags to wear so they could identify our bodies after the big one hit! We had constant air raid drills each week. We had about 4 air raid drills for every fire drill. This was in the Boston area school system too, not somewhere in podunkville or militia land. Military aircraft patrolling the coast were constantly causing sonic booms over our school shaking the whole neighborhood as they came and went. That is illeagal to do now over populated areas. Times have changed but it would be natural for someone of Steinbrenner's age to perhaps hide under a desk when threatened by a bomb if he practiced as often as we did.

You are somewhat right. He wanted to trade Jim Leyritz and Bernie Williams for one of the players and the sign the other as a free agent. Both of those players have signed new contracts/extensions in the past two years, so the time frame fit the episode and there was talk of Bonds signing with the Yankees. I don't remember which player was involved in the trade. The trade is good for both sides, a bit in favor of New York and this is George Costanza we are talking about, but the Yankees would have to have also given up probably a pitcher and a prospect to get either one of those two guys.

Even in the mid 70's when I was in elementary school, we had one or two air raid drills. But they had us line up in the hallways, not under the desks.

George is actually assistant to the traveling secretary, not the traveling manager. Is there a traveling manager?

Just a minor correction...not sure what the job requires though.

And I think George arranges flights, makes hotel reservations etc... for the team when they are ttravelling. We just see him at work when he's doing funny stuff.
