Poster praises "The Soup" as flawless writing compared to recent episodes, sparking debate about whether the show has declined in quality over the past few years.
Finally, Sony ran an Old episode in syndication. It's been months since I've seen an Old episode.
I acctually had never really thought of "The Soup" as being a hugely great episode, but after watching it tonight, I was able to see how awful the new episodes really are. "The Soup" was simply flawless. Truly genious writing behind this episode.
Wake up people! This Old episode was better than anything on Seinfeld in the past two years.

I've seen all but one ep. of Seinfeld and have noticed the change in the last few years. I think Seinfeld changed about 4 years ago. It is still VERY funny, but it is different, more obscure and "slap stick." I wonder if the show "evolved" (if you can call it that) because so many other shows were copying Seinfelds "about nothing" premise. Friends, single guy... heck most of the NBC shows.
The episode that changed everything was "The Junior Mint." This was really the first time that something goofy was in the show. Jerry himself stated that that ep. was a turning point.
I have to say I prefer the old style of Seinfeld, but the new ones can make me laugh just as much. What about the ep. with Kenny Rogers Roasters a year ago? That was a classic!
Pre-Mint or not... the shows are great.

I agree with you that last year was excellent. (I like the new "weird" style). But I'm very very disappointed this year. Only a handful of episodes are funny and it seems they don't know what to to with Jerry's character. The backward episode was a great idea, well written and put together, but I didn't laugh a lot, I was just curious to see why the characters were behaving this way. There were a few nice touches, like the return of Susan (that's how we learn why George kept telling Jerry "to put his sorries in a sack".) But overall, I find this season uninspired.

Thank you for taking the words out of my mouth. Why must Justin T. continually remind us less-enlightened ones how utterly horrible and appalling these "new" episodes are? It's as if every chance he gets he wants to insult this season's episodes. "The Little Kicks", "The Bizarro Jerry", "The Little Jerry", "The Yadda Yadda", "The Merv Griffin Show" were highly enjoyable episodes for me. Justin still has to comprehend that if someone thinks the "new" episodes are funny, that doesn't necessarily mean they have no sense of humor or are just plain unintelligent. He's bashing the show loud and clear, and frankly, it's getting awfully irritating.

"The Bizzaro Jerry" was the only remotely good episode from last season, in my opinion. "The Chicken Roaster" was wild and slap-stick - and that isn't what Seinfeld is about.

Next, keep in mind (you do tend to forget this) that the VERY SAME SEASON that gave us "The Soup" also gave us "The Chinese Woman" and "The Face Painter", two episodes I think are sub-par (though overall, season six might be the best one of them all).
No, Trib-boy, you wake up. Compare "The Soup" to "The Foundation" or "The Bizzaro Jerry". I think it, as good as it is, doesn't match up to these two episodes from the 8th season (from last year, BTW).
And finally, can you ever post something without adding more useless and pointless trach about how much you hate this season? Really! What was the point of adding "I was able to see how awful the new show really are" to your post? You're a broken record, Tribble. Same old thing. You've made your point. Move on. Talk about something else. Or better, just go away.

"The Soup" (show 93) is about the soup that Kenny Banya has instead of a meal, in exchange for the Armani suit. Also featuring the bounder English boyfriend of Elaine, George's ill-fated date with a waitress from Monks, and Kramer's liaison with a buxom, bad-tempered waitress from Reggie's Diner (which does *not* have egg-white omelettes, *nor* a Big Salad -- not even a Big Bowl into which two small salads could be combined.)
"The Soup Nazi" (show 115) is an entirely different episode.
