I was channel surfing today and landed on Murphy Brown. In this episode the balding guy (forget his name) was expecting a visit from his parents. When they showed up, guess who his father was? The same guy who plays Jerry's father! (the newer, larger one) I didn't know Jerry had a step-brother. Incidentally, his mother was played by that woman who worked in the office with Dick Van Dyke (I'm great with names, no?). SHE'S definitely seen better days herself.

I think you might be misreading the message you're quoting from. As I recall, Rose Marie reference was to the mother of Frank Fontana, a character from "Murphy Brown." It was brought up because the actor portraying Frank's father from that same episode, is the same actor who plays Jerry's father. It's all from the episode where Frank and Murphy almost die in a plane accident and flashback through their lives.
