In one of the Seinfeld episodes there�s a dude living with a woman Jerry is dating. The tranlation from english to swedish was not very good, so I didn�t really understand the meaning of what a dude is. Can anyone explain what the meaning of the word "dude" is? What does a dude do? A dude is simply a guy. A very common American slang expression, doesn't mean much more than that. Jerry was stunned to find that there was some dude, a man, living with the woman he was dating.

It is a guy, a man, a fellow, - but it also has an implication of being young, athletic, tough, cool, good looking, etc...
George would not be called 'a dude'. An older man would not be 'a dude' A 'dude' picks up 'chicks'.
