Enough already with all the griping about the last two seasons. In the first place, I've been watching and enjoying the eighth series in syndication. I can't understand all the fuss on this group last year. These episodes are strong overall as any previous season. The only difference is that the last season and the current season have seen a far greater use of charicature than actual character. In this respect, "The Merv Griffin Show" was a classic example. Moreover, last THursday's episode was a bullseye satire of the brain dead talk show scene and a fine parody on the cast's on-screen and off-screen persona. Notice how Jerry played "Jerry" playing Jerry and Julia played "Elaine" playing Julia. Very clever, very subtle. Sure "The Blood" was a lousy episode, as have been some of the Elaine subplots, but I defy anyone to say that "Serenity Now" won't fall into Seinfeld idiom in the same way "Long-talker", "Master of one's own domain" or simple old "Newman" have. As for this week's episode about flash blacks of a trip to India, how does this not constitute a Seinfled plot? We'll just have to wait and see.

ps Entertainment Weekly seems to have quoted with abandon on this group lately. Trash it! Any media organ which has had such consistently low opinion of the work of Joe Jackson deserves to be ignored.
