Just got done watching tonights show, which was a rerun. I realized that show has been going down-hill the past season. The wit and absurdy of it all are almost gone. I think they are taking themselves too seriously.
It is almost like they are beginning to think that what they are doing is important rather fun.
What do you think? I'd rather see them cancel then go on an be sub-par,

The writing is what made the show great before and it's what's bringing them down now. Though Larry David and Larry Charles are still there, they did lose Tom Leopold and Elaine Pope to other sitcoms. ("Love and War"...for both I think.) I can't really blame the new guys and gals, though, because I've even seen lame epsiodes from the Larry's...then the next week it will be the same writer giving us something great. It's hard to call.
I have noticed, however, that Jerry got back into the writing process at the end of the season (I think his name was on two episodes), and that they took ideas from the outside. (These are ideas from spec scripts that I heard on a NYC scriptwriting seminar that an online friend taped and to sent me. Thanks, Mike W.) Could their plans to breath new life into the show have turned around on them?

The last episode that I remember seeing Jerry's name listed on the writing team list was for "The Raincoats" (close talker, etc), which was one of the better episodes of this season. The show is completely devoid of those zany conversations that made past episodes so great, such as the one where Jerry and George are discussing blind dates ("Who cares about eyebrows?", "Thick, lustrous hair is very important to me.") They tried it in the raincoat episode with that small delivery on Jeopardy (placement of the interview), but it was forced and didn't really sound natural.
