george's sat scores

since someone brought that up:

everyone THINKS george is smart, so everyone expects him to have done well on his sats. he told people he got 1400 something. i'm not positive, but i think george's character is supposed to be jewish (although explain the last name -- ellis island??? -- i think not). since jerry plays himself and we know he grew up in long island, george went to a long island hs. i think that 700/700 (math/verbal) is the lower bound of what george's family-friends would think is SMART. he'd be embarassed by 699/699, but i don't think he'd keep 699's a secret for 15 years.

he's unemployed, unmarried, and bald(ing). if he's keeping sat scores secret, they've GOT to be LOW, LOw, Low, low. didn't he once say that he never bets money because he chokes under pressure (presha?). he never once mentions his college name, so it wasn't a GREAT school. it couldn't be a BAD school either.

and how did he explain all those rejection letters??? bottom line: the choking evidence points to high 400's (making total sub-1000). the university saw his good grades and took a chance. he must have told friends he got some scholarship...

More accurately, a fictional version of himself. The real Jerry Seinfeld doesn't have friends named Elaine, George, and Kramer, for starters. Don't assume details about the fictional Jerry's bio that haven't been established within the show!

George said he got 1409 (which he admitted was a lie). Anyone who remembers how SATs are scored would know this score is impossible to get since SAT scores always end in a zero. 1400 or 1410 would have been feasibly possible scores, but 1409 is impossible by a single individual. It's only when averages among many students are computed do the non-zero ending numbers occur. George's family/friends must not be so bright to not have caught this (or the writers who threw it out if you're looking at it on that level)...

"Costanza" Jewish? Maybe, but it has never been stated, so you really can't just assume it. "Costanza" sounds more Italian to me. Jason Alexander in real life comes from Jewish ancestors, but that doesn't necessarily make his character George Jewish. If you remember the episode where it was explained that George is Jewish, let us know, but I personally can't recall it being mentioned.

Either way, where he and Jerry went to college hasn't been mentioned, so saying it is not a GREAT school or a that it isn't a BAD school can't really be determined.

I know a lot of GREAT schools that accept people with low SAT scores and vice-versa...

I don't think the writers ever thought of any of this when they did the episodes (validity of a high school in real life, etc). As Jerry would say during his stand-up and on Letterman, "this is a TV show, George and Kramer are FICTIONAL CHARACTERS...". Let's try to remember this before pointing at things that can't possibly be proven (George's REAL SAT score) or things that the writers could probably care less about (the color of some JFK high school (if one even exists) on Long Island).

My point is: yes there is at LEAST one JFK nearby, so YES if the writers REALLY cared... but again this is just a tv show... :)

These are official names and production numbers that I got from the show, I've incorporated them into the episode guide that I put together. I can't tell from your question, whether you knew about the episode guide or if you were referring to some of the posts that people have written that included that information.

Yes, I have heard that too in interviews as well (Alexander on Tonight Show with Leno). Still, going from the show, George's religion does not seem to be any sort of major point (it has never been an issue).

I'm sure there are. My point in itself is that from the name Costanza, one can only roughly speculate on George's ethnicity, not his religion.

Exactly. His character (IMHO, the best on the show) is the focus, not his background or religious practices.
