The Parking Garage Episode

Anybody recognize the exterior shots of the mall?

Looks an awful lot like the Newport Centre mall in Jersey City, NJ. Just a stones throw from the Holland Tunnel leading to NYC.

Any NY/NJ residents agree?

Yup, definitely Newport! And if anyone has ever seen their bathrooms, no one could blame Jerry or George for public urination! :)

The entire episode wasn't filled at an actual mall. It was all a set.

I had heard that the set for "The Parking Garaga" wasn't really that
big, that they kept changing the colors and numbers so it would look
like a much bigger garage.  The next time I watch that episode, I'm
going to pay close attention to the cars and see if I can spot the same
car on two different levels.

Yes, of course they filmed in L.A., but they also sent out crews to film NYC exterior locations (Monks, New York Health and Racket Club, NY Public Library, Coney Island, Central Park, etc...), so it's perfectly reasonable that they would film an exterior mall shot there. Even though it's in New Jersey, it's probably closer than any New York State mall. And my original post asked if anyone recognized the EXTERIOR shots of the mall. I never stated that the parking lot was in Jersey City. Anyway, the more I see the episode, the more I believe it's the same mall.

In the book Seinfeld Universe by Greg Gattuso it says " Contrary to popular belief , "The Parking Garage" was not shot in an actual mall but a huge set constructed in CBS' s Studio City. Director Tom Cherones shot the one set to look as if the characters had walked through several different levels"

They also did the same thing in "The Subway" using only one car set ,shot from different angles.

I think they took down all the sets on the Seinfeld set and used the whole area for the parking garage. They might have made changes to the set for different scenes.
