Jerry sells his Porsche

For those fans who must know absolutely everything about the stars of their favorite TV show (and remember, the word "fan" is derived from "fanatic"), here's more trivia.

The Sunday New York Times of Jan. 26 ("Automobiles" [section 11], page 1; may not be available outside metro New York City area) reported on the annual Barrett-Jackson automobile auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. One of the cars it described was a 1954 Porsche 356 Speedster being auctioned by Jerry Seinfeld, who apparently was not in attendance. According to the Times, the car is white with a black leather interior, is "nicely restored", and has a "documented racing history". The rather small photo shows that it's a convertible with classic sports car lines and a somewhat bulky shape, with what appears to be a spoiler in the rear.

The Times reported that "the bidding was intense and the car sold for a resounding $82,950." It stated that the market value of the car, sans the Seinfeld name, would have been in the $45,000 range.

I wonder why he sold the car. Is he trading up? Maybe he had his eye on the Tucker that was being auctioned (one of only 51 built); it went for $262,500.

I didn't go to the auction. I already have a car.

I read that the porsche originally belonged to James Dean.

I heard something about Shoshanna thinks that he has too many cars. He may be cutting down on his collection of 16 or so Porsches.

It was bought by the owner of Yankee Candles, who added it to his collection which can be seen at the Yankee Candle Car Museum in South Deerfield Massachusetts off of I-95 north of Hartford Connecticut. An article in the local paper, if I recall it correctly said the car actually had next to no miles on it, and was kept that way to keep it new. He also bought a VW Beetle that also belonged to Jerry.
