What is wrong with SEINFELD

This used to be a great show. However this is not the case now. I have been an avid fan of the show since it first aired and have followed it through many time slots, always remaining loyal. But it is no longer the show I used to love. Seinfeld used to be about four characters who were friends and various everyday situations that they would find themselves in. The result was great comedy which also allowed you to think, which is a rare quality in sit-coms. Unfortunatly, during the past season and a half this has changed. The show is now written with situations which are based upon the characters personalities. While still a funny show, it does not posses the magic it once did. Kramer is overused and it seems like all he does these days is stand around and shake. To me this is not funny week after week. In order to fix these problems I believe that the show must be about four people finding themselves in reallife situations and not having the situations molded around the characters.

Aaron, I agree with you totally. I've been watching since The Seinfeld Chronicles. The show does not even resemble what it used to be. Neither do the characters! The situations are so ridiculous now it's really amazing. You're also correct about Kramer. Every other word out of his mouth is "giddy' up" or he's taking some silly pratfall. Kramer used to be funny just by talking, not solely by screaming or falling around. I make tapes frequently of the older episodes, and I can watch them over and over; the writing always seems fresh and clever, never overdone or cocky. Someone else recently posted a similar article and talked about the bits of stand-up that used to be included in the show. They would cut to it throughout the show and it kept a nice flow to things. Why did they stop this? The characters in the show now are not the same people in the earlier shows. I thought characters were supposed to progress as a series aged, not regress to the point where every- day life is filled with weird, chaotic situations ad nauseam. That's what typical sitcoms are like and it's what Seinfeld has become. I don't think you could say this about the first couple of years. Most of the comedy comes from the characters interacting together. Period. No dwarfs(dwarves?), no pageant contestants, no US Open tryouts, etc. That is what I really miss, the characters I grew to enjoy just doing their thing. Oh well, sorry about the Seinspiel but I really think the show has degraded.

Well, Seinfeld might have been a good show once. I see it sometimes because my wife is fan. To me, these days it seems rather like a re-run of I love Lucy. It's run out of steam (I'm assured it used to have some). Its a stuffed TV show. If it wasn't nailed to the network it would be pushing up the daisies! Like many comedy shows it doesn't have the sort of stuff that makes for longevity. Boring, trivial replays of formulae from earlier episodes, nothing with any real bite.

Its become a baby formula show - just can't be compared to a decent suck on a tit. The answer is easy. Just turn it off!
