In the second half hour, Larry reads a ridiculous tabloid article to Jerry about how he supposedly washes his hands 50 times a day, and how he cleans his house from top to bottom twice every day with ammonia. Jerry admits to being a very clean person, but completely denies it. Later, Jerry tells that he thinks the Tabloids are funny. Jerry - "It shows that I'm in show buisness"

Jerry takes about five minutes to explain the concept of the show, he says that it's not really a show about nothing, but really a show about anything.

Larry then asks if the audience has been a big help, Jerry replies that they really do help. Larry then asks if people suggest changes, and if Jerry would change anything. Jerry replies that they would not change anything with the show.

Strangeley enough, Jerry talks about the American Express commericals. He tells that he is making it night and day. And guess what? It will involve Superman, an animated version who Jerry will interact with. Jerry- "It's one of the greatest thrills of my carreer"

Larry asks Jerry if he would like to do a film, Jerry replies- "Not really, I like to do things people see immediately."

I suppose it was a good interview, Jerry was in a jovial mood, and seemed to be very honest. There were a LOT of clips from current and seasons past, and they really contributed to the conversation. Larry asked a question about leaving the show, and I missed the answer. However, my general impression from the follow up conversation was that he would be staying (I think). It had some humor, and answered a lot of questions, definitely worthwhile to watch.

* WAVE 3 Louisville, KY is pre-empting tomorrow night's show to run University of Kentucky vs. Morehead State. I'm pissed because: 1) I live across the river in Indiana, and I'm not a Kentucky fan 2) KY will beat Morehead (pun intended) 3) I can't find anyone who would rather watch basketball than Seinfeld

Yes, I also caught Jerry on Larry King and thought it was a very good interview. One thing I like about Jerry is that he doesn't dodge questions by giving those vague answers you see so many people in the business doing. He was right out there with every answer. I thought it was interesting that he and Larry David had originally thought of the concept of the show together as just being about two comedians, going around making fun of what they see. Then, it turned out that they couldn't have both of them doing standup routines so the other character was written not as a comedian...which is where the concept of "George" was created. Interesting that in the pilot they didn't have a woman on the show at the time. I really didn't know much about the first years of SEINFELD.

i agree with u that was a great interview and i dident even know it was gonna be on i was just flipping i also think larry king is boreing and i look forward to the episode

I watched the King show last night, and I have a few observations.

For starters, Larry asked Jerry about the people who piss and moan about how the show has changed, and he responded by saying the show is SUPPOSED to change. If it didn't, they wouldn't have made it to the 9th season. I don't recall the exact syntax of the conversation, but it was essentially a slap in Justin Drivel's face.

He also mentioned that Seinfeld is the #1 primetime sitcom in the country, AND the #1 syndicated sitcom in the country, at the same time. I don't know if this has ever happened before. it's also a testament to the fact that the show is more popular right now than it has ever been in the past.

A few other interesting bits:

Jerry will be doing a standup comedy special for HBO this summer.

Jerry will appear in an AmEx commercial during the Super Bowl. He didn't give the details, but it will include Superman references.

He said he will never appear in a movie, or another sitcom.

There will be no spinoff of Seinfeld. They've set a standard that no single character could possibly live up to.

They spent a lot of time talking about tonight's episode "The Betrayal". It should be outstanding, probably will be nominated for an Emmy, has a good chance of winning. Maybe this is a bit premature, but then, he's already seen this episode.

Jerry also mentioned that each episode costs about $5 million to make. Waaay more than an average sitcom. He justified the gang's high salaries by pointing out that NBC is getting so wealthy on his show, he deserves his cut. The estimate (from day 1 until the last episode is run in syndication for the last time) is over $1 billion in profits.

He also addressed the tabloid articles written about him. The latest made him out to be a neatness/cleanliness freak. The article said Jerry washes his hands 30 times a day, and has a cleaning crew that Cloroxes his house twice a day. The funny thing is while Larry was reading the article, Jerry grabbed a Wet-Nap and started wiping his hands. He then draped the Wet-nap over the microphone (so he wouldn't catch germs). it was a really cute, unscripted bit. Bottom line: Jerry loves the tabloids, because as long as people are talking about him, he's still a star.

You know, I'm really starting to get tired of this. I'll say it again, one more time so you are sure to understand me. Those of us who you seem to think are against change, are only concerned with the quality of the writing. If change means going from a show that is well written, intelligent, and very funny to watch, to a show that isn't funny anymore, that's not the kind of change Jerry was talking about. I have no problem with trying to keep the show evolving over time, as long as it makes me laugh. My main problem with the show lately is that it hasn't made me laugh as much. I enjoyed last weeks episode though.

Danny, I'm sorry I have to disagree with you there. It does mean a hell of a lot. Seinfeld is 9 years old and it's the number 2 show week after week. Mary Tyler Moore didn't make it to 9 years.. Cosby didn't make it to 9 years, and either did Roseanne. The makers of Seinfeld have accomplished quite a bit and it really puzzles me to see and read so many people criticizing this show with such a passion. Andrea

hi i watched the show too....too sad i was at my friends place eating dinner...then i had to rush to my place to catch the rest of it....i mite have missed couplea q & a's.... i have couplea observations and questions myself.

ur right abt this ......he said there is nothing common in all episodes except the people who are playing the characters...... and i think he is very right..... i think the Merv Griffin show episode was really good this season.

i didnt know jerry was so excited abt superman in real life as much as he is in the sitcom itself....one could see the way he was bubbling with enthusiasm when he was talking abt superman....okay supposedly this commercial would have the animated superman (from the '60s...drawn by ???(someperson) i couldnt catch the name).. and jerry would be his friend...(in the commercial)..

he said he mite do a movie....he said something like 'oh maybe later' or something... but he sure said he wouldnt be able to live upto 'seinfeld' ...so he wouldnt do another sitcom.

yeah.....i hope this episode is one of the best like 'master of domain'....'soup nazi'...

he also mentioned how important elaine's character was to the whole show...i think he was discussing how they came about making this wonderful cast and he said something like 'oh elaine's character is pretty important....this season's premiere she (julia) was on maternity leave and they had to tape her seperately...and jerry was saying how odd it felt not to have her in the set"....

and hey to all the ppl who watched this interview....larry asked him what he thot abt ppl who are trying to copy seinfeld.....for which he said something like 'oh iam flattered... comedy is a very difficult thing...when i started out ..i tried to be like ????(someone) ??? (someone)...(i couldnt catch who , since i have been in the US for only like a year now.. and have been only watching sitcoms only in the last 2 years...these are probably sitcom characters in 70;s or 80's enlighten me guys)...

now my question is ....which sitcoms was larry referring to??? 'cos i dont think there is any sitcom which is even remotely like seinfeld.....then again...i watch very few of them...i probably wouldnt know.... but maybe someone out there could enlighten me...

I agree. I know that there was a big merger with Turner and Time Warner. Is NBC part of that conglomerate?
