Its getting worse...

I have basically been dissappointed with the show all season long and someone earlier touched on 'how to make it better'. Hers some more ideas on how to get the show back 'on track'

1) Less use of Kramer. Yeah I know. We all love him. But too much
   of the show revolves around. It was better when he was the
   weird neighbour who just popped in for a little stint (for
   physical or character comic relief). I think they are putting
too much effort in modelling the show after Kramer-style of
   humour.

2) More intelligent humour. The level of humour os becoming low
   calibre (Three's Company kind of stuff). What made the show
   good was it didn't  play down to the audience.

3) Silliness. Combined with 2 above. Again low level stuff.
   George with his shirt off, Poppy freaking out, CEO's
   acting like complete duffices. Not funny. They seam to getting
   away from the kind of humour that ordinary people would
   think of which is what made the show funny. Moving sidewalks,
   fresh fruit, having 'hand' in relationships, weird dates,
   urinating in the garage, etc...

The shows now are *beyond* about nothing. I wish they would go back to primarily being about Jerry and his insights, his goofy friend George, his ex Elaine, and his rarely seen but much anticapted neighbour. I always though Elaine was much more smarter and well written before and George was used as good setup material (straight man) for Jerry's remarks.

I think the only time I laughed in the last 4-5 episodes is when Kramer hit the couch. Now that was funny.

I think they are running out of ideas.

I agree with this paragraph of your post. The show has definitely changed, and not necessarily for the better. It still gets ratings and the cast and crew was rewarded with breakfast the other day from none other than Warren Littlefield, or whatever his name is. I fear they will coast and remain mediocre because they are doing so well. I thought last week's show (11/3) was lame. Some of it was funny, the 3-D poster art was topical, but i especially thought the way it ended was lame. First of all, they wrap up the program during the credits - I'd much rather hear Jerry tell a couple jokes than watch the last couple scenes in a scrunched up screen image next to the credits. But the whole kidney stone deal was lacking something. I did enjoy that the gymnast dissed Jerry. That was unexpected and funny. The pizza/abortion episode was much more focused. I miss the old Elaine. Her character lacks consistency this year -

geez...I was just wondering... does anyone LIKE seinfeld?? As a somewhat new
subscriber to this group, the majority of the comments I read are akin to
this one.  I've watched seinfeld from the beginning, and I wouldn't call
it a piece of shit--by any means.   People are enjoying the comparison
between Friends and Seinfeld and I have to say there is no comparison.
None of seinfeld's characters are stereotypical and none of them really
care what anyone else thinks.  The show itself has done more during prime
time than any other sit-com (breaching subjects that no one *dared*).
Friends has the dumb blond, the woman getting over a bad engagement..
blah blah blah.  I'm sorry to all you friends fans but when you speak of
Friends fabulous originality, what is it that you are speaking of?  The
fact that they're all good-looking???   As
for seinfeld itself:  Viewers like seinfeld because of the people, not the
situations they get into particularly (although it certainly helps).
It's their reactions to situations-- if that wasn't the case, then
we could put anybody in those slots, and the show would be just as good.
something tells me people wouldn't like seinfeld as much if george were played
by Paul Reiser. come on folks--it's a great show.  no, in fact it's the
best show {imo}.  It's had it's up episodes where you roll on the floor
laughing, and it's had it semi-bad ones as well.  Look into the history
of sit-coms and I'm sure you'll find the same to be true for most
shows.  don't be so quick to condemn jerry and the'ole gang..

Lil, I have to agree with you whole-heartedly. There has been way too much discussion in this group of how to make the show better. I think the more people try to analyse (the key part of the word being "anal") something, the less they enjoy it. No wonder some of these critics can't enjoy it. They're still trying to figure out if George is Jewish, if Kramer wears boxers or briefs, if Jerry rides his mountain bike, how to get a picture of JLD's Australian "nipple" picture. Come on!!! My advice is to sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. It IS the best show on television. BTW, what the hell is all of this "69er, 73er, 67er" biz? I've never heard so much emphasis put on when someone was born. Who cares? And why is it being included in "alt.tv.seinfeld?" Thanks again Lil, for setting this group straight! Brian

I think there is so much negativity towards the show this season is because we *like* Seinfeld so much. I don't think the majority of posters are getting on the Seinfeld bandwagon this season and gripping in the newsgroup. There is a definite thread/feeling of helplessness about the shows quality. I agree with you with what the shows about (as will the majority of newsgroup readers), its just that the acting, characters, writing, comedy, situations are becoming lame. A few bad shows is different from the overall perception that the show has taken on a whole new feel (i.e. a turn for the worse). The Freinds/Seinfeld thread can be debated over and over again, but Friends is funny (IMHO) - the last blackout episode was hilarious. I guess people are asking 'If Freinds is so good, why can't Seinfeld be good (with its superior cast and skills)'
