I watched both "It's Like...You Know" and "The Norm Show" last night. "It's Like..." was good, but uneven. "The Norm Show" blew it away, in terms of quantity and quality of laughs. I liked 'em both, but if I had to bet on one to survive, I'd have to put my money on Norm MacDonald.

Granted...but don't they, and most new sitcoms, seem still to be trying to repeat the basic Seinfeld formula and concept? Does every popular standup and/or every major production studio now need to field its own show about nothing? It all comes across as formulaic yada, yada...redeemed only by the quality of the performers.
I like Norm McDonald a lot, and predict he will have a long and prosperous future in the movies as a comic performer. I'm not sure TV is his best medium, he is better suited to the big screen and long format. Same observation and prediction applies to Jennifer Gray. She also belongs on the big screen, and even has a track record of past success there which she will soon get a chance to pick up again.

Reading what I just read, it sounds like I enjoyed It's like..you know, but I think I'd rather watch Norm show. Unfortunately, my girlfriend and I watch Party of 5 which goes up against Norm show, so that can lead to problems.

Yep. I thought the same thing. I even said to my my girlfriend that if Norm was a butler then it was straight out of Seinfeld. Norm's looming
prison sentence really tied it in.
I have to admit I was surpised be the Norm show. I really didn't expect to have as many laughs as I did.
On a completely different line of thought, the local syndication schedule had "The Fatigues" following on a WB affiliate's channel shrotly after the Norm show. I don't know that I appreciated this episode as much when it was originally broadcast. After the prior posting on the Oliver Stone JFK film, I really clued into to the "Platoon" parody.

this is interesting... i think norm is best in small doses, like "that's right, frank stalone." or "afterwards, ricki lake ate an entire can of frosting." his short punchy jokes on snl were so brilliant. his movie was pretty awful i thought. i wouldn't mind seeing norm as a talkshow host or maybe he could imitate letterman and burt reynolds full time.
