All we've ever been shown about George's sense of etiquette is that he has none! Remember the "Babka" episode where he thinks bringing the bottle of Pepsi to the dinner party is the right thing to do? He complains bitterly about having to spend some money on a nice bottle of wine... Now suddenly, at Susan's parents' dinner, George is embarassed by his mother's lack of knowledge about the Merlot wine served with dinner, and their crudeness about other dinner party etiquette.....

He dressed sloppier back before he got a job because he didn't need to dress for a job. Anyway, maybe he didn't care as much about making a good impression on the people at the dinner party as he did with Susan's parents in "The Rye." There wasn't as much of a purpose for him to have good mannerisms at the dinner party as with the dinner at Susan's parents. George is a very self-conscious person (part of his lack of good mannerisms) and wanted himself and his parents to make a good impression on Susan and her parents. I realize that there may be arguments to say that George still lacks just as much etiquette as before he became the opposite. Oh well. Most of his mannerisms really have not changed.
