I watched "The Beard" two or three days ago. When Elaine was trying to convert Robert to heterosexuality, the point was made that Robert was a starting shortstop on the gay "team". I'm not that deep into baseball: was there any significance to choosing the position, shortstop, or would the line have made sense if he said, "I'm a starting pitcher?"
The best athlete on a team generally will play SS. It requires the most physical ability.

Ah, that is clear.

How could you have played that position when I was always there? So far away from the action the sound of the bat hitting the ball and the sight of the same are separated by two seconds.

The smartest one will be the catcher...except for the physical abuse. Who was it that called the catcher's equipment the "tools of ignorance?"

I'm confused. Are all the SS's gay? Does SS stand for Ships Sailors?
I know!
Football is so much easier. You've got your tight ends, wide receivers and fullbacks.

And all the ass-tapping between plays, all the pile ups and mid-air grabs (I'm going to run to you and jump. You need to catch me and cradle my jewels in your midsection), the locking of the face masks after a good play, group changing and group showers. It's all a little too macho for me.
Don't forget the hiking of the ball and where the qb puts his hands.
This is really freakin' me out, man. Serenity Now!
But good shortstops receive hits that are going up the middle.

Should we be talking about this? Not that there is anything wrong with it.
