What a stupid ongoing thread. Why don't you relax and enjoy the show. Does any of this really make a difference. A great team of comedy writers put out an excellent show with a great cast that keeps me constantly laughing at the antics of four caricaturized totally American human beings. Yet viewers get caught up in meaningless trivia about national origin, religion, political correctness etc. If you want to critically analyze the characters or the quality of the writing thats fine. Maybe Jerry's coke bottle glasses offended the visually challenged; maybe the theft of the dog offended PETA; maybe Jerry's forgetting a name offended women whose names rhyme with body parts. I don't know. But I don't get offended at anything on the show and I'm the world's biggest bleeding heart liberal. I am a second generation American, but don't care if the characters are Greeks, Jewish, or Laplanders. It is totally unessential to the enjoyment of watching some odd ball human beings doing hilarious things. Geez, let up already. Bob Derenthal

Poster argues that discussions about characters' religious and ethnic backgrounds are meaningless trivia that distract from enjoying the show's humor and writing quality.

I don't remember seeing any post that would indicate that anyone was terribly offended by jokes or references that might be considered politically incorrect. People discuss it but, I don't recall reading anything where somebody was so offended by some joke about this group or the way that group was represented that would quit watching.
Nor do I and so am I.
3rd gereration, here, and whether a character belongs to a certain nationality, or religion, or whatever has no effect on my enjoyment of the show.
Unessential, yes, but fun. It's just a pastime. A debate about trivial issues where we search our memories, our video collection, and current episodes for any little clue that supports our theory. Like a mini mystery. Some people even have a financial stake in the answer to some of these questions, although I think it's rather silly to wager on those questions that have no definitive answer. Just as the topics mean nothing to you, the same is true for the majority of the rest of us. We are just amusing ourselves.

I don't think anyone really give's shit whether George is Jewish or not. It's all part of the trivial fun. If you took the trivia out of this newsgroup, there wouldn't be a newsgroup.
