Fans discuss whether George and Jerry being best friends since 4th grade contradicts the backstory revealed in 'The Outing' about them meeting in high school gym class.
On the plane, George went over to talk to Jerry. He said that Jerry had been his best friend since the 4th grade. But in "The Outing," George and Jerry outlined how they had met - in high school.
George was climbing the ropes in gym class, and Jerry was spotting him. George kept slipping and burning his thighs on the rope, and finally he fell right on Jerry's head. They've been close ever since. :-)

I know that Jerry and George were friends at a young age, but George said that they were BEST friends since 4th grade. They've only been really close since high school, though.

However, in "The Junk Mail" George admits to being jealous of Frankie, who was Jerry's friend at summer camp when they were ten. This seems to go along with the 4th grade origin story, as it implies Jerry and George were already close. That was my main problem with "The Betrayal," especially since "The Outing" is such a well-loved and long-established classic episode.
