Fans debate whether Jerry drinking beer contradicts his established character, with one poster arguing the momentous news of both parents moving away justifies the exception.
In previous episodes, Jerry has made the point that he doesn't drink. This is precisely why Jerry and George have a beer together.....the news that both their parents are moving away is HUGE. It is so big that it requires a beer to celebrate appropriately.

And Elaine downed some Buds when she learned that George was engaged. Also, at the Christmas Party (the sweater with the red dot episode) Elaine was drinking the Cranberry and Vodka.

Also in the red dot episode, Jerry drank some of the Hennigan's scotch.
There was a show where george and Jerry were in a bar and George hit on a woman that noticed his ski lift ticket on his jacket. I recall they both (jerry&george) had drinks in their hands...and when Elaine went out with Keith Hernandes they had drinks in a bar....and in one episode Kramer went "under cover" in a bar to find out if a friend was snorting coke...it was pretty amusing to watch him try and drink a beer and smoke a cig. at the sametime.

Jerry and George both drink beer (in Jerry's apartment--it was apparently in Jerry's fridge) when they discover they're parents will be living in florida....
There have been numerous episodes where numerous characters have been shown drinking Snapple.
