😂 Loved it

Fans love the pony remark scene from this episode, finding Jerry's dinner table speech about why immigrants wouldn't bring ponies hilarious and praising the actors' composure during the bit.

Last night I saw 'The Pony Remark" for the first time, I have wanted to see it ever since I saw the scene "I didn't know she had a pony..........." in a clip episode. Luckily I taped it so I can watch it over & over-That scene around the dinner table is the funniest thing I have ever seen. I was laughing and grinning all evening like a mad person. How did those actors sit there with a straight face when Jerry gave that speech ? Does anyone agree with me? ( or is it the fact that I recently left a country packed with ponies to come to a non-pony country myself , that makes this so funny for me?)

I thought it was hysterical as well. "Of all the pictures of immigrants in boats coming into the New York Harbor...I never saw one of them sitting on a pony! Why would anyone come here if they had a pony?! Who leaves a country packed with ponies to come to a non-pony country? It doesn't make sense!". Hilarious!

I think this is the earliest episode in which it can be said definitely that the actors playing our "Seinfeld Four!" had found their characters. A classic episode in its own right. (I got it on tape too, so I'll see how much of the "pony dialogue" I can get transcribed, having just noticed that someone posted some of it.)

TESTIMONIUM CLINTONIUM, circa A.D. 66(?): About this time there lived Clintus, a wry man, if indeed one ought to call Him a man. For He was one who performed surprising misdeeds and was a teacher of such people as accept his untruth gladly. He won over many

{Here's the situation. Jerry & Elaine at Manya & Isaac's seated at dinner table with Uncle Leo, Mr. & Mrs. Seinfeld, others. Neglected to get the names of the writer and director.}

Mrs. Seinfeld: So. Did you hear Claire's getting married?

Manya: Yea-uh.

Mr. Seinfeld: I hear the fellow owns a couple of racehorses. You know, trotters. Like at Yonkers.

Jerry: Horses. They're like big riding dogs.

Elaine: What about ponies, huh? What kind of abnormal animal is that? And those kids who had their own ponies . . . .

Jerry: Oh, I know. I hated those kids. In fact, I hate anyone that ever had a pony when they were growing up.

Manya: I had a pony.

Jerry: Well, I didn't--uh--really mean a pony per se--

Manya: Vhen I vas a little girl in Poland, ve all had ponies. My sister had pony. My cousin had pony. So what's wrong with that?

Jerry: Nothing. Nothing at all. I was just merely expressing--

Mrs. Seinfeld: Should we have . . . some coffee? Who's having coffee?

Manya: He was a beautiful pony. And I loved him.

Jerry: Well, I'm sure you did. Who wouldn't love a pony? Who wouldn't love a person that had a pony?

Manya: You! You said so!

Jerry: No. See, we didn't have ponies. I'm sure at that time in Poland they were very common. They were . . . probably like compact cars.

Manya: That's it. I had enough.

{Exit Manya.}

Isaac: Have your coffee everybody. She's a little upset. It's been an emotional day.

{Exit Isaac. Now for Jerry's finale.}

I didn't know she had a pony. How was I to know she had a pony? Who figures an immigrant's going to have a pony? Do you know what the odds are on that? I mean in all the pictures I saw of immigrants on boats, comin' in to New York Harbor, I never saw one of them sittin' on a pony. W-why would anyone come here if they had a pony? Who leaves a country packed with ponies to come to a non-pony country? It doesn't make sense. Am I wrong?
