On last night's rerun, Putty says he's been a Devil fan ever since he was a kid. Considering the Devils only started existing in the early 80's (I think '82) that would make him way to young for Elaine.

How can you say that Puddy is too young for Elaine. She's not discriminatory about age - she dated a 66 year old man (who had a heart attack in Jerry's apartment in The Alterate Side).
Depends on the cutoff age for a kid. Let's say you're right with 1982, that's fourteen years. 17 + 14 = 31 At 31, you might call a 17 year old a kid.
Just a possible explanation...
