the deal

What happens with the relation betwen Elain and Jerry after the episode named THE DEAL? How they ended their sexual relation?

I seem to remember when this episode originally aired that they made some comments about realizing that they had made a mistake on several fronts:

1.)  The episode invites (yikes!) soap opera-like viewership by
     creating a story line that is not resolved at the end of the
     episode.  True, they've done that before, but usually it has
     been in the context of either a two- or three-parter or
     a less life-changing part of the characters' lives.  When
     George and Elaine were unemployed, for example, that was a big
     deal to one character.  But the Elaine/Jerry romance had
     a potential to change the interactions among all characters
      (George: "You realize I can't see her anymore either.  It's
      breakup by association." and Kramer:  "I liked you better when
      you weren't a couple.")

2.)  It took the edge off of the show by creating too many "warm
     fuzzy" moments (I remember disagreeing vehemently at the
     time but seeing the show Monday I had to agree -- it was more
     like an early "Mad About You" than it was a "Seinfeld."

3.) It took away two potential sources of story line and humor: Jerry's love life and Elaine's love life.

If I recall correctly, the writers and producers almost immediately saw their mistake and decided to pretty much ignore the fact that they had done the show. There may even have been a delay in when they aired the show as a result.
